Pop Winans RIP

Donnie McClurkin, Karen Clark Sheard and Tremaine Hawkins were among a host of gopsel music industry elite who attended the homegoing service of David 'Pop' Winans Sr., father of the acclaimed Winans family.

Perfecting Church of Detroit, pastored by his son Rev. Marvin Winans, overflowed with more than 2,000 people who paid tribute to Winans, whose legacy lives on in his wife, Delores, nine children (including BeBe and CeCe Winans) and many grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Ronald Winans, of the Winans gospel group.

Hawkins sang "Changed" at the request of Delores Winans. Hawkins' strong vocals were backed by McClurkin, Erica Campbell of Mary Mary, Vanessa Bell Armstrong and the Perfecting Church choir.

Karen Clark Sheard of the Clark Sisters sang "Hallelujah."

Others gospel artists and ministers in attendance included Byron Cage, Marvin Sapp, Dorinda Clark Cole, Bishop Noel Jones, Bishop Paul Morton, Bishop I.V.Hilliard, Pastor Jerome Bell, Andrew Gouche and and Gwen Morton.

There were many who spoke, but according to the Detroit Free Press the program summed up the occasion: "It was stamped, 'Passport KINGDOM OF HEAVEN' with an emblem marked with the initials DW. Inside the 'passport' was a train ticket marked, 'This Train, Earth to Heaven.'

Gospel Music Publicist Bil Carpenter contributed to this report.

My heart goes out to the family it feel like it hit close to home cause my dad is that age. One thing we know is that we have hope and our hope is Jesus Christ and in God there is no failure. With much love and pray for you all we feel your pain and your joy!

I have loved this family since the day I learnt about them in the early eighties. I condole with them and we know their daddy rests with Jesus!

I just read the news about 'Pop Winans'. My sincere condolences to the Winans Family; he lives on in his family & through their music. Pop has gone to be at rest with our Lord - safe in his arms...

I love The Winans. BeBe and CeCe and the WINANS Gospel Group. When I saw
Mama Winans and Pop Winans, both
beautiful parents(Inside and out), I fell in
love with Gospel music more than ever!
What a Wonderful, Gifted, Annointed Family. I think that each and everyone of the Winans are GOD'S FRIEND! JESUS is LORD! Pop Winans is in Heaven where a lot will not go because they don't know JESUS. I PRAY for you all and everyone who dol not believe. JESUS
is MY EVERYTHING. GOD BLESS
THE WINANS You're all his Children.

I would like to send my prayers to the family.I have lost two parents and a brother and one thing I do know when they are right with God it makes it easier but it stil hurts and is very hard. My family will be praying for your family. May God give you strength through these trying times.
