Miss California to present at Dove Awards
Miss California Carrie Prejean doesn't sing gospel music, but she does enjoy the message of the faith-based genre.
That's all it took for the controversial runner-up to get spot as a presenter at the annual Gospel Music Association's annual Dove Awards Thursday night in Nashville.
Prejean also has a Baltimore connection. She is reportedly dating hometown Olympian Michael Phelps of Towson, according to published reports.
Prejean will be among the many gospel artists to present during the awards show, including Baltimorean Jonathan Nelson.
Prejean's time in the spotlight began Sunday when she gave a controversial answer to a Miss USA question about gay marriage. Apparently, its her faith that also has propelled her to a starring role at the Dove Awards, which will air Thursday night at 8 on Gospel Music Channel.

i am proud of her answer. i don't hate gay people, but I do believe that marriage is between one man and one woman and i think that the pagenat should not have had a question like that for any contestant. prejean should consider suing the pageant for putting her on the spot like that. it is the same as asking her if she was gay or if she believed in Jesus Christ or any other controversial subject. Those type of questions have no place in the public arena and there should be some privacy left to a person's beliefs. She is truly a role-model to anyone who has ever wrestled with telling a white lie to get ahead, and yet she stuck to her beliefs and knowing that it could cost her the crown, still stood up for her beliefs and showed true character. She is the real Miss USA and SHAME on the pageant for forcing this question on her.

Just a clarification. This MIss California has NOTHING to do with the Miss America Pageant system as she was competing in the Miss USA pageant, not Miss America.

I think it is great that someone had the courage to stand up for what they believe instead of giving into the pressure of being politically correct. If this lady dates Michael, I hope she has a good influence on him. Both of them work hard and so they can set a good example for those young ones who will need to work just as hard to pay off the debt that Obama is running up.

I agree with you all that she had a right to state her opinion. However, it was HOW she stated it that cost her the title, not that she disagreed with same-sex marriage.

HERE IS PERSPECTIVE FOR YOU BIGOTS.
WHY ARE BLACK FOLKS TREATED WITH KITTY GLOVES AND NOT GAYS? HUH? YOU CANT DROP THE N WORD OR SAY EVEN SOMETHING SLIGHTLY RACIST WITHOUT THE WORLD STOPPING! BUT ANYTHING HOMOPHOBIC GOES. NOW PEREZ IS THE BAD GUY?. IF THIS GIRL SAID SOMETHING RACIST SHE COULD NOT BE ENJOYING THE MEDIA BLISS SHE IS ENJOYING…..GOING TO ALL TALK SHOWS TO DEFEND "WHAT SHE BELIEVES IN". SHE COULD HAVE BEEN DUBBED THE DEVIL.WHY IS RACISM FROWNED UPON AND NOT HOMOPHOBIA?
EVERYONE THAT IS A CITIZEN AND PAYS TAXES DESERVES EQUAL RIGHTS. MARRIAGE IS A GOVERNMENT INSTITUTION NOT A RELIGIOUS ONE.

It's easy for one to be proud of her answer and all you go girl-ish if the issue doesn't affect you directly. Try being denied a right solely based on a person's prejudices and see how brave you think a person is for siding with the denier.

I agree with Ms. Cali. It does not make me a bigot. And I don't hate gay people. But as a black person, it is an insult when people (esp. homosexuals) compares racism to homophobia. They both wrong but guess what. I did not choose to be black. People choose to be gay. Equal rights does not mean changing the true meaning of marriage. Equal rights means equal rights.

For the Real Record: CARRIE PREJEAN Won The TITLE FARILY!
Misssssssss. Perez HILTON Clearly STOLED The CROWN From Carrie Just To Satisfy His Own Personal Political Agenda.
Secondly, You have Chosen to be gay! There is NO Scientific Evidence that gay man has given BIRTH to another gay man!
Therefore, You "CHOOSE" to be gay. Moreover, we CALIFORNIANS Voted 3X That Marriage is between a Man & WOMAN!
If Misssssssssss. Perez HILTON wants to keep choosing his gay lifestyle then so be it but STOP Forcing us to give you SPECIAL Rights!
Furthermore, being gay is nothing but a "CHOSEN" Lifestyle!
We CALIFORNIANS are tired of your lies, deception, & Manipulations!
Finally, We Californians have the STRONGEST ECONOMY, Most ENLISTED Men in the USA MILITARY, GREATEST Weather, & Most FEARLESS State of The UNION!
STOP Your Deception........

Miss California's got cahones for answering the question honestly. The end result is that she's more popular (or at least well known) now than she would have been if she had won

In response to the poster who compared gay rights with African American civil rights, I have to say that I just don't see the comparison. If you are African American, you have the history of slavery, prejudical laws and the KKK behind you, your ancesters suffered because of the race in which you were born. If you are born gay, you also may not have chosen this for yourself, but you do not have the history of your entire family's pain to go along with it. You, indeed, may be the only person in your family to ever have been born gay.
Going along with the comparison. You cannot say the "N" word, and rightly so. Keeping that in mind, is it okay for Mr. Perez who started out calling Ms. Prejean the "B" word and has now amended it to the "C" word? Would people be up in arms if an outspoken public figure called him the other "F" word? Is misogyny acceptable? I do not see Ms. Prejean calling anyone names.
One last comment. Just because someone does not support gay marriage does not mean that he/she hates gays. For centuries, and especially in this country, the defination of marriage was for one man and one woman period, end of definition.
For many of us, the problem has not been against gays having equal rights but to change the meaning of a word that we all, gays included, grew up to think of meaning a man and a woman. It is changing the definition of a word, not about allowing equal rights. Equal rights could be had through a civil union, and to make sure it stays completely equal, why not make all legal partnerships civil unions and then let people get "married" within their church or place of choice? This would, of course, have to be grandfathered in so that people who are already married can keep their same legal status.
For this poster, who has always defended gay people in the past, it has never been about rights, but about a word being changed that is commonly known to mean one thing to something else.

I am a assisting pastor in the Atlanta area that just moved from Los Angeles and I am so proud of Miss California for stepping out against the media, liberals, and Hollywood which is what we the church need to do. I believe that this is the push that we needed to get us to begin walking out the kingdom principles in our life. .
