Gospel elite to perform at Tommy Ellison tribute

Old-school gospel groups will perform during a tribute to Tommy Ellison, lead singer of the Singing Stars, who died earlier this month.

The performance list includes The Canton Spirituals, The Blind Boys of Alabama, The Five Blind Boys of Mississippi, The Swanee Quintet, Keith "Wonderboy" Johnson and The Original Drifters.

The tribute at Brookland Baptist Church in West Columbia, S.C., will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m Saturday. A public viewing is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ellison’s funeral is 2 p.m. Sunday at Smyrna Baptist Church.
