Aretha's hat could go to American History Museum
Smithsonian officials said today they are "delighted'' that Aretha Franklin is thinking about donating her inauguration hat to the Museum of American History, one of 19 Smithsonian Institutions in Washington.
"We are definitely interested in Aretha's Hat,'' said spokeswoman Valeska Hilbig of the National Museum of History. "We have a large collection of American History that includes music and pop culture and this just makes sense.''
Franklin's hat would become a part of the collectibles taken from President Barack Obama's inauguration on Jan. 20, where the Queen of Soul sang "My Country Tis of Thee" to set the tone for the historical day.
Earlier today, Gospelrama reported that the museum made a request of Franklin to donate the hat.
While the president has moved on to more important things, Franklin is still enjoying the buzz created by her "big bow" hat, made specifically for her by a Detroit hatmaker.
