Gospel of Michael McDonald has soulful sound
Michael McDonald did an interview with The Patriot News in Harrisburg before a concert saying that it's easier to write gospel music than to write secular music.
Earlier in his career, he says, he wrote songs that he wasn't sure and still isn't sure what they mean.
"I've written so many songs like that, where I've had a complete set of lyrics except for the actual point of the song -- it's like having a joke and not knowing what the punchline is." he told the newspaper.
McDonald's latest CD is "Soul Speak,'' an album of R&B. His most noted faith-centered song was "Yah Mo Be There,'' a song he performed with James Ingram, who recently released his own gospel CD, "Stand," a blend of contemporary and urban gospel.

McDonald also did a great up-tempo duet called "Everyday" on Darwin Hobbs' 2000 album "Vertical" that got quite a bit of local play. I'd love to hear him do a full album of gospel music.
