Pop Winans recovering from series of illnesses

The Rev. Marvin Winans, in an exclusive interview with The Detriot News, said his father - David "Pop" Winans - is recovering from the strokes, seizures and heart attack he suffered earlier this fall.

The 74-year-old Winans was going to his vehicle after leaving a restaurant when he became disoriented and fell to the ground. He was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak near Detroit.

"Doctors said he should be blind, paralyzed or dead,'' the Rev. Winans said. "I'm just amazed because what transpired is beyond medical belief. The doctor said, 'Now, I believe."'

Pop Winans is the patriarch of the first family of contemporary gospel music, the Winans, which includes Bebe and Cece Winans.
