Update: Memorial service for Yolanda Adams' mother tomorrow

As a youth, Yolanda Adams listened to all genres of music because her mother was a pianist and educator who exposed her to R&B, jazz and classical genres.

And like her mother, Carolyn Jean Adams, Adams became a teacher. But Yolanda's talent took her beyond the classrooom to become a Grammy Award-winning artist.

Her mother, however, remained a teacher, and for many years was part of the music ministry at her Houston church.

On Saturday, at 1 p.m., those who remember Carolyn Jean Adams will participate in a memorial service for the mother of one of gospel's greatest at The Church Without Walls, 5725 Queenston, Texas.

Dr. Ralph D. West and Pastor Claudia Ford, will officiate, according to a short obit on Legacy.com. There will be a private interment.

Carolyn Jean Adams died Monday, according to the obit. The cause of death as well as information about her life was not made available on the site.

However, notes of sympathy from family, friends, former co-workers and students, prove that Carolyn Jean Adams lived a life that touched many.

Go to the guest book and read the remembrances or write your own note of sympathy.
