Queen of Gospel raises money for worthy cause

Albertina Walker has a long history in gospel music and is known as the "Queen of Gospel" for her longevity in the spiritually-uplifting genre.

But she does more than sing about what she believes. Each year, Walker hosts a fundraiser for The Albertina Walker Scholarship Foundation for the Creative and Performing Arts, which offers scholarships to college students studying music.

The benefit was held last week at a church in Chicago, which happens to be her hometown. According to the Chicago Defender, gospel artists Beverly Crawford, Smokie Norful, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Percy Gray & Joshua's Troop, Darius Brooks and others performed during the benefit.

Just because the show is over, however, doesn't mean that donations aren't being accepted.

For more information on how you can help, call 708-261-3714 or e-mail the foundation here.
