'Faith Nights' make gospel part of the game

In recent months, controversy has swirled around "Faith Nights" at area sports games.
On those nights, area churches and some church choirs sing at halftime or better yet, gospel stars put on a concert after the game.

The most recent one was this month when Baltimore's Maurette Brown Clark sang her award-winning gospel music in a concert after a Washington Mystics WNBA game.

But sports teams aren't alone in marketing to the churchgoing crowd. In the last few years, businesses such as The Baltimore Sun, Verizon Wireless, All State and McDonalds have been sponsors of religioius events that while enterprising and innovative are also part of promoting good will in the community.

A writer for the Washington Post, questions the validity of such events and calls faith nights "proselytizing."
