The Royal Wedding
John-John Williams has a story on the plans Baltimoreans are making for the Royal Wedding. Included among them, the early-morning (5:30 a.m.) opening at Union Jack's in Columbia. The fun there will include a champagne toast and manicures.
Slainte Irish Pub in Fells Point will also be hosting a wedding watch.
Are there other restaurants hosting viewing parties?
How about you, will you be watching? I watched the last one but all I really remember is Jane Pauley's hat.
Actually, this post is just an excuse to embed this French & Saunders sketch.

An Irish pub celebrating the marriage of their political overlords? Well, color me Orange. I suggest they celebrate with a special menu of grass clippings and general starvation. Perhaps they could send all the regular food to an English pub.
yes, weird

I don't think anyone ever accused Slainte of being overly authentic. Ahem.
I'll be watching at 6am here at home. Probably get some London Pride to complement.

I intend on waking up at 5, making some tea, and watching the wedding in my guest bed room while I attempt to not fall asleep. I *might* try and make some scones or something festive the night before :)
What will you be doing!?

Why? Why does anyone care about the Royal Wedding? I have no plans to watch - although I'm sure I won't be able to avoid some coverage no matter how hard I try - even on the Dining @ Large blog and the Sun want to insist that we be involved - Grrrrrrrrrrr.

Yawn. The 3 minutes of wedding highlights on the evening news will be enough for me.

I completely agree with jt, who cares?

My car's license plate reads SCONES, so, yes, of course I'll be watching the wedding (maybe in my Edwardian wedding dress that amazingly, still fits after 24 years) and you know what's for breakfast. But the impending royal nuptials brings back the memory of my very first day in the bakery I had just built on to my restaurant, cleaning up after the inaugural batch of scones to the news of Princess Diana's death. For days, I followed the coverage while working, though the sight of her sons trailing behind her casket stopped me cold. I truly dispise the cult of celebrity, though those born in line to the British throne are trapped in it. But against staggering odds, William has seemingly turned out a fine man. I wish Will & Kate good health and lots of nachas.

I'm so sick of all the coverage hoopla already. Actually, I was sick of it by December. I think the final straw was when I read that someone is has a jellybean up for auction on Ebay that has what looks like Kate's face on it (like the grilled cheese sandwich that supposedly had the face of Mary on it). Bidding is supposed to be fast and furious at this point. Really? I have absolutely no intention of watching any of the wedding coverage at this point.

What's sickening is when gold-digger Kate is held up as a role model for little girls. Pathetic. SCONES is perfect, since her entire role in life is to produce male heirs. Her role is baby oven. Romance? What a sad fantasy.
I'll tell you where there won't be any sickening fawning slathering over the greatest xenophobic nation in the history of the Earth -- The Cat's Eye Pub.
And it's No, Nay, never,
No, nay never no more
No never no more
This is a family whose matriarch cared more about her corgis than dead Diana.

I'm not sure about calling England the most xenophobic country in the history of earth. Wouldn't feudal Japan take that prize?
Nevertheless, I'm no fan of these royals. I'm waiting for the Anglo-Saxons to rise up again, overthrow their Norman conquerors or whatever continental trash is ruling these days, and restore the throne to its rightful heir: me.

I would say that England is the most successful, proud and unpunished xenophobes in history. Racism is still a proud way of life there. What did Edward Said say, something like colonialism is cultural rape.

Owl Meat O'Gravy - I am just curious, why do you call Kate a gold-digger?
Would it be preferable that the Corporation force William into an unloving relationship to produce the "proper" heir and ruin another whole family?

"Would it be preferable that the Corporation force William into an unloving relationship to produce the "proper" heir and ruin another whole family?"
Why mess with tradition?

Gold-digger because according to her mother she only decided to go to whatever college when she found out that Bonnie Prince Whats-his-name was going there. So, she had her sights on him from the get go. And that's according to her mother.

OMG - Ok, but what I read was that "Mom" wanted her to go there cuz he was there - she actually wanted to go elsewhere. It's a well known fact that "Mom" is the social climber.
And she wasn't the only pretty rich girl at the school. He had many choices from the school and from around the world. Besides, what other woman would wait 9+ years for a man to come around (particularly to marry into that family). I personally would hate to spend the rest of my life watching my P's and Q's. The press is deadly and will rip anyone to shreds for the slighest wrongdoing. Not a way I would want to spend my life.

You and me both, Kitkat!
As I tell my sons (at appropriate moments, snapping my fingers) "You better shop around."
