Sunrise review: Ethel & Ramone's

ethelI didn't even know that Ethel & Ramone's served lunch. But  it does, because John Lindner went there for his Sunrise Lunch Timed review. And it was, like, open and everything.

Did he like it? Nope, he loved it.

I'm pretty sure this is the first time John's doled out four stars for Food. And he was pretty happy with the atmosphere and service, too.

Go read it.

I love Ethel & Ramone's, too. I just wish they'd correct the spelling of andouille on their website and printed menus. Said something to the gentleman at the JFX market last year, but apparently it didn't take. Picky? Maybe, but it's one of the cornerstones of their menu and cajun/creole cuisine in general.

i had the gumbo there a couple months back and can't rave about it enough...thick, rich roux with a depth of flavor that only a lot of love could produce and massive shrimp/sausage. can't wait to get back there.

I visited Ethel and Ramone's with a relative
to enjoy the poe boy sandwich that you raved about in the review. When we arrived, my relative excitedly asked with a smile,"Are you still serving lunch. We read the review of your po'boy sandwich and are anxious to try it." the staffer replied,"We stop serving lunch at 2:45." "The article in the paper says that you serve lunch until 3:00pm," my relative responded. The chef, Edward Bloom, then spoke up and angrily said," I have to pick up my kids from school at 3pm." The two men acted like we were imposing on them by patronizing their restaurant. The resistance seemed to be related to race. There were whites eating while the Edward Bloom and Jeff Berkow, the General Manager, seemed determined not to serve us. Someone should remind these gentleman how to serve the public, since they lobby so aggressively for your business at the Farmer's Market on Sunday. At the Farmer's Market, these gentleman actively encourage people to visit their establishment.
