50 best county restaurants, nos. 50-41
My list of the 50 best county restaurants launches today, with numbers 50 through 41.
When I asked for suggestions, I said that the list would included restaurants in Howard, Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Harford counties. That's not the way it turned out, though. Harford County is not included in the list.
I lobbied for that change. I felt like I needed to do more eating up in Harford County first, (Carroll County, too).
So, go take a look at 50 through 41. Of course, you won't know yet whether a restaurant you don't see is ranked higher, or has been left off entirely.

How dare you shun Kent County! It's the center of the culinary universe. Feel the pull ...

Let me be the first to complain: How could you have left Tio Pepe off this list?

I still say El Salto is not remotely praise-worthy. My meal was mediocre at best, and nothing I saw at the tables around me changed my mind. Just sayin' ... y'all must have pretty low standards.

Dottie,
Wondering if that was the El Salto in Brooklyn Park (the one on the list is in Parkville) because what you describe is exactly the same experience I had there a couple of years ago.
Pappas (#42) has a location in Glen Burnie now too. The crab cake I had was good, but, could have used a bit more Old Bay.

There is good stuff to be had at El Salto (at least in Brooklyn Park, I haven't been to the Carney location).
The lunch specials are boring combination plates that seem to be aimed at bargain hunters with not-very-critical tastes, but if you eschew that and go for the regular part of the menu you'll do better. Try the Tacos El Salto, with a zippy carne asada and chorizo filling and a tres picante (whoops, mixed languages!) salsa made with Chile D'Arbol. Yum!

What does "eschew" mean?

@siasds
It's the sound you make when you sneeze.
Other than that, there's a thing called Webster's Online dictionary that you can use if you can't figure out what a word means from context.

Thank you MC for the suggestion about the dictionary. It was revelatory. And no, I don't know what "revelatory" means either.

siasds - Do you also need to look up sarcasm? It was a joke, ala the first sentence.
