Your weekend dining PLUS with the sleeping pet of the week

Baxsleet.jpg

Let's see. I've got to have a Sterling's fried seafood sandwich. Other than that, I have no firm dining plans this weekend. How about you?

We've got Bethenny Frankel's Skinny Girl Night Out at the Hippodrome on Saturday night. Any good Skinny Girl dining tips in that neighborhood? Who can vouch for Alewife?

Also, on Saturday, an Amontillado tasting at Wesminster Hall.

Sunday is the city's St. Patrick's Day parade. Who has a favorite Irish pub they want to sing the praises of?

The Sun has rounded up its coverage of weekend events here.

Reading words got you down -- here's Super Sam Sessa with his weekend picks.

Do you have to weigh in to attend SkinnyGirlNightOut?

I can definitely vouch for Alewife (get a smokeburger), but if you're heading there before a show at the Hippodrome, it's best to make reservations. They frequently are booked in advance and can't take walk-ins except at the bar.

In the week before my birthday I usually try to gather and use the "Free" Birthday items that various resturants (usually chains) send out for being on their email lists.

Has this blog ever complied a list of free eats for birthday boys and girls?

great idea. I'll follow up

The sleeping pet of the week seems to be invisible.

Madelblue is a troll.

That is the cutest sleeping dog ever! I just want to squish his adorable face.

Wait...that's my dog! Baxter the Boy Wonder!

Tonight, Lebanese Taverna with friends. I think this is their first time.

Oh, and if MadelBlue is a troll, she's a troll worth following. Who doesn't like feebies?

birthday weekend extravaganza:

friday: bday dinner at Brewers Art before that bacon and fennel bread pudding gets taken off the menu (also they have put the amazing Sun King back on tap, their 14th anniversary beer...one of their best imo)

saturday: brewing a beer in homage of Hunter Baltimore Rye Whiskey up at a friends house (cool article on the history of hunter rye here: http://www.baltimorebottleclub.org/articles/hunter_rye.pdf)

sunday: i'm a sucker for hanging out at Mick Osheas for the parade and after. always really a good time, with lots of people and some good irish bands to keep things going through the day.

note: their shepherds pie, which comes slopped into a Styrofoam bowl (hauntingly similar looking to a KFC bowl) is remarkably good, really. one year my friend ate 5 bowls and his cholesterol has never been the same.

I am going to a fundraising bull and oyster roast on Sunday. Can't wait for a good beef sandwich, must be since I can't eat meat today that I really want a beef sandwich.

I wasn't aware that I was a troll. Not sure why Anonymous hates me so much? Because I lie about pepper allergies? Because I like thick women? I promise I wont post here again. What a hateful place.

@MadelBlue
I think (I hope) that the troll post was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the fact that the current Mr. Crazy (Charlie Sheen) called his co-star Jon Cryer a troll in one of his rants. Mr. Cryer has subsequently posted a hilarious reply (on Conan) that he is, in fact, a troll - complete with doctored photos of him with spiked pink hair and bulging eyes.
Please don't take the comments of 1 poster (who doesn't even use a name) too seriously. Most of us play well here.

Oh, don't be a baby. No one cares what the anonymi say.

Owl, some of us are sensitive (sniff!)

I think MadelBlue is a lovely daughter. Please stop discriminating against her because she has gravity defying orange hair. She had that belly button jewel before you crazy kids went navel piercing crazy.

But can you try to change her mind about green peppers. I made a mean stuffed pepper in my day.

Hampden UMC is having a sour beef and dumplings dinner on Saturday at 5 p.m..

3449 Falls Road
Baltimore, MD 21211

MadelBlue, I hope that you decide to return and add your opinions.

Was there a “Sleeping pet of the week” contest I missed somehow? Srsly? I have one. How do I enter? ==^-^==

the sleeping pet of the week feature appears on Fridays and Mondays accompanying the Your Weekend Dining post. Please send adorable and not adorable photographs of sleeping, recumbent and/or grouchy pets to:

richard.gorelick@baltsun.com

Let me know the dog's or cat's name, and your name (real or otherwise), if any, you'd like posted along with the photo

It's a good thing Owl doesn't have a camera-phone, or you'd surely be getting sleeping pet pictures that I would not want to have posted.
