The best of Mardi Gras and Shrove Tuesday

So, what are you giving up for Lent? Lotion? Make it matter!
My best bet (and thanks to my Twitter correspondent @suitandsoot) for Mardi Gras/Shrove Tuesday is in Waverly.
It's the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper at St. John's in the Village.
Dinner is from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., just $8 for adults; $6 for children (free for les enfants).
But get this -- the supper is being catered by the church's across-the-street neighbor, the Darker Than Blue Cafe.
The menu includes pancakes with assorted toppings, bacon, sausage, scrambled egg casserole and fried apples.
I mean, COME ON!!
Father Parker told me that folks could just show up, but maybe you should call 410-467-4793. More information on the church's facebook page.

acrually hate to quibble, but if i'm not mistaken mardi gras is going on as we speak...tuesday is just the last day of it (fat tuesday).
that said i hope to make it up to clarence's taste of new orleans this weekend in aberdeen. two novembers ago me and my girlfriend went down to NOLA and a bunch of locals recommended Coop's Place. we had this amazing rabbit jambalaya with tasso ham and couldn't stop thinking about it.
the a couple months ago the urbanite did an article on Clarence's and turns out he worked at coops for a couple years...so we've been trying to make it up there every since. anyone been?
ah, not sure how to hanldle Mardi Gras (day) vs. Mardi Gras (festival period)..I'll figure something out

The whole period is called carnival, Mardi Gras is the day

Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday

Far better marketing behind the name Fat Tuesday than Shrove Tuesday. Shrove translates as "confessional", and when is the last time anyone got his drink on for Confessional Tuesday.

Last year this blog had a column on Mardi Gras that I found doing a search for "Baltimore and Mardi Gras" on Google. I lived in New Orleans growing up and have been disappointed with local options for New Orleans cuisine/Mardi Gras. There was a place mentioned in last year's Dining@large blog named Acadiana in DC, along with the apology for mentioning a DC restaurant.
My family went there Sunday for brunch, and they have a Mardi Gras themed Jazz brunch every week. It really was fantastic. Truly the best New Orleans meal I've ever had outside of New Orleans and the best brunch in general I've ever had in DC or Baltimore.
