Sanders' Corner closed for winter, or forever?

A reader writes:

several weeks ago Sanders' Corner restaurant on Cromwell Bridge Rd in Balto Cty seemed to have suddenly closed with a handwritten "Closed for Winter" sign in the window. They have never done this before so I was wondering what the story was as I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere. I thought you might have some info..........

I tried calling the number just now. No one answered. Anyone have some light to shed?

Thanks to Reader (see comments below) for shedding light. Here's the Towson Times article about the sudden, and mysterious, closing of Sanders' Corner.

This is odd. My wife and I lunch at Sanders Corner several times a year and try to get there early to avoid a wait -- because the restaurant is usually packed. Now that I think of it, though, we haven't tried it in the dead of winter.

Naudain sounds like an ass. How do you put that many people out of work without any warning and, even worse, any explanation?? As human beings just trying to get by, they deserve better. Even if the restaurant isn't closed forever, they would be better served to look for an employer who actually cares about their well being and is willing to keep them informed of major business events.

Owner Ron Sanders died this past fall. Perhaps that is a reason.

John Naudain bought Sander's Corner from Ron Sanders in April 2008 so the death of Sanders is not the problem.
It's really a shame that Mr Naudain doesn't come forward and say whether the restaurant is closed for good. If the staff is seeking other employment, how will he reopen? The staff and patrons deserve an explanation. I always enjoyed my time there.

My car club had an early dinner at the restaurant on Saturday, January 8, 2011. All seemed to be doing just fine at the restaurant. The food was excellent and the service was very good. At 5 o'clock, the restaurant was over-run with hungry people who were looking for a nice meal on a cold, windy day. There was no sign that anything was in the works. I would hate to think that this astounding landmark is gone. I guess that the next thing we'll hear is that the place is scheduled for demolition. What seems strange to me is that this closing took place right after the home invasion on Glen Arm Road, ultimately resulting in the man responsible committing suicide on the restaurant's lower parking lot. Could bad press have anything to do with the closing? We'll wait until spring and see if Sander's Corner re-opens...

I had 2 restaurant.com certificates for Sanders. Tried to go use one a few weeks ago and saw the hand written "closed for winter" sign. Restaurant.com just emailed me and stated that Sanders is out of business and I have a credit to use. I was looking forward to trying this restaurant too. Oh well, on to the next!

They have a for sale real estate sign in front of the place now.

My daughters saved their money and bought my husband and I a $50 gift certificate for Sanders. Now I have a piece of paper hanging on the fridge and nowhere to use it! How do we get their money back?

I don't know Ms. Silverman but I (we)completely share her sentiments about this sudden closing of Sanders. My SOBB (significant other boyfriend Bill) and I ate lunch/brunch EVERY Sunday at the bar for over two years. We enjoyed the excellent food and service, knowing the bartenders, waitresses and other friendly patrons! We sincerely wonder where they all are now??!! The crab soup made there once a week, was the best ever tasted in the state of MD!! We were saddened by the death of Ron Sanders, but believed that the fine reputation of Sander's Corner Restaurant would live on. How disappointed we are to find that this is not the case........
