Mi Viejo Pueblito is now Fiesta Mexicana

Its fans will be sorry to hear about the recent closing demise of Mi Viejo Pueblito in Brewer's Hill.

The good news is that restaurant space at 901 South Conkling Street is now Fiesta Mexicana, and the owner, Federico Lopez also owns the Fiesta Mexicana on Philadelphia Road in Rosedale.

I spoke very briefly with Lopez who told me to check out the online reviews of Fiesta Mexicana on Yelp!  (Well played.)

"This locations is big challenge," Lopez said, "but we're going to be fine."

Who's been to the other Fiesta Mexicana?

Thanks, Elizabeth for posting this link to a D@L discussion about Fiesta Mexicana.

Well clearly I have because I am obsessed with it. My friend Renee brought me there two years ago and it was the best thing she ever did for me! I have taken numerous family members and friends there to celebrate birthdays and graduations. I once called the restaurant to ask about something. The ladies working there couldn't answer my question so Federico called me on his cell phone from Hershey Park (where his son was in a concert that day). That man is a saint!

EL wrote about it awhile ago. http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/dining/reviews/blog/2007/10/fiesta_mexicana.html

Highlandtown, not Brewer's Hill. It is right behind the South East Anchor Library.

I ate there last night. It is terrible. The menu is very cut-down, and everything is served dry--no salsa, no pico de gallo, nothing. The only similarity it has to MVP is that it still takes a long time to be served.

Tried Fiesta Mexicana for the first time last week and loved it. Everything was well flavored and fresh tasting and the service was not fancy but they were very patient when we came fumbling in the door. Also, the goats milk lollipops are awesome. I'll make sure to check out the new location when I'm on that side of town.

I ate there last week and was very disappointed. The food is not nearly as good as it was under Mi Viejo Pueblito. The chips were baked and didn't have much flavor and the avocados in the guacamole were not ripe. The salsa was bland. The menu is very limited and the owner told us he is trying to make everything healthier by eliminating fried foods, but it lacked flavor. The owner was very nice, but I really miss MVP under the old management.
