Baltimore Restaurant Week, extended (revised)
Here, now, is a fuller breakdown of Restaurant Week extensions, and a little story to go with it. Yes, some restaurants had planned their extensions all along but not all of them. Last night's snowstorm played a role in some of the decisions.
Blue Hill Tavern takes the prize for creative solutions. Its Tweet last night, promising to extend its deal one day for every inch of snow that fell, was right clever.
The general manager at Blue Hill told me that social-media marketing has been entrusted to a willing employee, whose idea the snowfall extension was.
Well done, and other restaurants that still aren't using Facebook and Twitter (which are FREE!!) risk falling further and further behind.
Since this story was posted, a few more restaurants have announced extensions, among them:
Crush, and its new sibling restaurant, Demi-- at least through Wednesday, February 2
Bluegrass Tavern -- through Thursday, February 3

What's with the womp-womps? I can't really see the downside to this other than for those who prefer to be able to have their pic of tables at 7:00 PM on a Tuesday night. But, really, how is that good for anyone other than you?

Restaurant Week gets extended every year. Just tack on an extra week when it is originally scheduled, and stop with this charade.

I love the idea of restaurant week. Let's my husband and I get out and enjoy our anniversary each year without spending a fortune. I think it's great that they are extending it. Especially with the way the economy is now. Those who are turned off by it should just stay home and let the rest of us go out and enjoy a fine meal.
