Farmers' market mess

Preakness clean-upThe Baltimore Farmers' Market was a mess of morning-after-Preakness proportions today, according to a regular shopper who just contacted me.

Ankle-deep trash, as she described it. A Dumpster the size of a house blocking the main entrance. It was so bad, my tipster said, that vendors were forced to set up across the street.

She attributed the mess to a nearby bar that had been holding some sort of multi-day "Zombie fest." That was her word for it, but it jibed with all of the people dressed in black, leather and studded dog-collar accessories I'd noticed walking past my office on Calvert Street the past few days.

I've put out a call to a vendor, but haven't heard back yet. Any other vendors or shoppers out there want to share?

Zombie fest? Why weren't we warned?

Zombie fest? I think not. It's the 3 day Death Fest at Sonar.

You were warned.

Plus the fact that there was some sort of foot race that wound up near City Hall, blocking traffic trying to reach the market today. My wife gave up and went to Whole Foods instead -- not a good substitute.

I went to the downtown market 2 or 3 weeks ago and that was my last trip there. It has simply gotten too big and too crowded. On the upper level, the aisle is so narrow that you are constantly saying excuse me because you are bumping into people. The lower level is wider and easier to navigate, but I'm just turned off by the market now. It used to be fun, but there are now too many people, too many craft vendors, too many dogs, etc. I know I sound like Debbie Downer, but I used to really enjoy the market. Now, it's just too, too crowded.

Catonsville has opened a small market on Sunday from 11 to 3. That's where we are going now. There aren't many vendors, but hopefully that will improve because people are stopping there. Hey downtown farmers, you can do better in Catonsville! :)

Man, that's the first time I've ever heard someone complain because a farmer's market is TOO popular. Good gracious, I wish all Baltimore venues had that problem.

Death Fest and the NCAA Lacrosse tourney made for some interesting people interactions this weekend.

The farmer's market? Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded.

O malley's fault....too many backdoor deals..if u know what i mean

But hmpstd, I long to echo "the shape of sexy self-cultivation"!

Dahlink, you will always be "the [dahlink] of the [D@L] stars"!

Am, hmpstd--(blushing)

I went for the first time on Sunday so I didn't know if anything was different. I got there around 7:15am. I didn't find it crowded at that time of day. It was cool...I will be going back.

we won't go unless we're out of there by 8. that's usually early enough to dodge the tourists and parents parking strollers in front of each other to block the upper aisle. i didn't notice anything out of the ordinary on sunday.

No, it's not crowded at 7:15 (imagine that), but try it at 9:15 and see how uncrowded it is. Yes, there is no doubt; you have to go early. By about 9:00, you can't even move in there.

"Zombie fest." Tee hee...

I was there at 10:30 ish and it was fine. No more crowded than usual. And there was no trash on the ground.

My tipster was there very early -- 6ish. Apparently they got it cleaned up. LV
