Restaurants extending Restaurant Week because of the weather
I just got an e-mail from Ryan, the general manager at the Wine Market, saying that the Locust Point restaurant is offering its Restaurant Weeks menu through Saturday, Feb. 13 because the bad weather this weekend kept many folks away.
I hate to break it to you, Ryan, but they're calling for four feet of White Death this weekend.
Ha, ha. Just kidding. ...
I'm actually impressed that the prix fixe is being extended through Saturday, because it's a good deal for couples deciding to celebrate Valentine's Saturday night instead of Sunday. (And I'm sure there will be plenty of them.)
This is the first restaurant I've heard of extending the promotion, but I'm sure it won't be the last. I'll update this entry if I find out about others, or you can post below.
Update: I got this e-mail from Sotto Sopra -- "Since numerous guests have had to cancel and will cancel due to snow storms, Sotto Sopra is extending Restaurant Week through Valentines Day, Sunday, February 14th." They've upped the ante, folks: Through Valentine's Day!
Caesar's Den: "In response to your blog regarding Restaurant Week and due to the horrid weather we have been contending with throughout the regularly scheduled Restaurant Week, we at Caesar's Den are extending our Restaurant Week menu through Saturday Feb.13."

That doesn't surprise me and it wouldn't surprise me if restaurants extend further in to February (excluding Valentine's weekend I'm sure). I was in DC over the weekend and I saw signs for several places that they featured their RW menu and price for the entire month of January. I guess anything to get people in the door.

I saw 12"-16" on the WaPo site, but they aren't sure about it.
4' would be memorable, and would put this winter into the number one slot for Baltimore winters (we're in second place now, but have a lot of catching up to do).

Isn't Restaurant Week extended every year?
I think many places weren't planning to do so this year because they were afraid it would cut into their Valentine's Day audience, which they hope will extend over three days because of the weekend. EL

Many Howard County restaurants extended their restaurant week menus. Originally planned to end Jan 31, they've extended through this weekend.
Of course, with Snowpocalypse IV coming, a lot of good it will do!
captcha: reported lustily. Not how I intend to describe this weekend's storm...

Thanks Tom.
This really is the only blog I'll ever need. Restaurant Week extension notices and weather forecasts.
What's next, Schmuck making book on the Super Bowl?

Who cares? For most places, RW is decidedly not a bargain.

The most common moniker ascribed to R Week is Amateur Week for restaurant employees in L'Italy.
Come on, it's ridonculous.
I suppose it's the fortnight of dumbass eating like St. Patrick's Day is to drinking.
Self-congratulatory lameness.
Please make Restaurant Fortnight stop so that I can get a decent meal without morons who want to be called Foodies. Jesus H Christ, how about eating some food first before you label yourself

Ceaser's Den in Little Italy is extending through Feb 13th.
For the sake of everyone who lives here, please use the garage on Central Ave.
OMG, I'm not so sure about Amateur Week, but it sure as hell does seem like tourist season. One night I considered paying the Valet to park my car just so I could get dropped off in front of my house.
Captcha is once again on topic: Transactions adapters

Its typical Baltimore, 1 week turned into 2 weeks, turned into twice a year with it still being extended until it's meaningless. No other city knows how to wear out something successful quicker than ours!

As dumb as you might think it is guys, restaurants are really hurting this year and need this promotion, believe it or not the media telling people to dine out these two weeks has tripled restaurants business if not more, bargain or no bargain....Keep extending it , whatever it takes....Too many good places have closed their doors

Ummm, Manhattan.
Many many restaurants have a "Restaurant Week" or "recession special" or whatever for the whole year.

Consumers have lost their weekend Restaurant Week dining due to inclement weather and threatens the same this weekend - even big Super Bowl gatherings. If we have 12 inches of snow plus there will be no street parking and how are you going to walk from a parking lot when the sidewalks aren't all shoveled. Restaurateurs have lost 50% off there weekly business because the weekend inclement weather and it looms again. I look at the extension as a win/win - sorry a number of you feel that kvetching about the extension of Restaurant Week an earth crushing bit of news.
You have the option at anytime of not going to any of these places and if they extend it, why do you begrudge it?

Please remember to shovel, folks. I'll be out in this, walking my dog. Other people will also be out walking in this.
Usually, the day after it snows, 2/3s of the walks in my neighbourhood haven't been shoveled and they turn to rough ice. This is really not fun when you are schlepping 30 lbs. of groceries home or carrying an elderly 40 lb. dog who can't walk on it without falling.

I think it is totally pathetic that people cannot shovel their sidewalks. If you are physically able to shovel there is no reason you should not be out there like the rest of us! Don't live in a house if you are too lazy to shovel snow. Stick to apartment/condo living! Sorry I had to vent on this. I see way too many houses around the city where people never shovel. Totally ridiculous!

Only on a blog can someone talk so seriously about how they consider their consumer habits to be an artform, far above the unwashed masses who don't know how to eat. Pathetic...

Marie Louise Bistro will also be extending Restaurant Week through February 13
