Deep thought on snow removal
No one told me it was four inches of sleet, ice and wet heavy snow.

I have yet to go outside. Even Mr. Jefferson refuses to get out of bed.

I just cleared off the top layer - under the crusty surface, there was a soft underbelly. Kinda like some of the sandbox posters...:-)
I figured it was easier to clear six inches three times rather than 18 inches once!
captcha - "simply bereaves" - like we're all doing with the soon-to-depart Dining@Large!

That is also my philosophy when it comes to shoveling zevonista. Getting a later start than I wanted, but then again, I was out at 11:30 for my last swipe last night.
"have tahitian" Are you kidding me? Good god, YES! Please! Make this evil stop...Anyone have any extra arms I can borrow? Mine are getting ready to fall off.

Zevonista has the right idea, clear little bits at a time rather than struggling with the whole load.
I swear this captcha reads the blog: stats accident - hope there are none from this storm!

I just came in from Phase I shoveling, and I must live in the right place, because there was no icey cover. It was actually light and fluffy, perfect for pushing, IF I had any space left to push it into. I'm in Randallstown, and I sorta envy those who live in walking distance to civilization.
I think it's different down here in the city. It's just on the borderline of freezing. EL

If its any consolation, its only 31 degrees here in North Florida right now.
but the sun is out.

I made it from Gardenville to downtown.
I am at work.
They have just told me to leave.
Shoot me.

For all those Fed Hill readers, once you finish from your daily shovel, we will be waiting. We are open (of course) with a brunch/lunch afternoon menu. The hot spiced wine will give an opportunity to continue with those DEEP THOUGHTS.

No extra arms, Trixie, but could I trade my back for a younger one?

The husband was rejoicing last night when the snow switched over to rain about 11pm. I checked the temperature--it was 28--and I informed him that it was actually FREEZING rain, which is worse--harder to shovel, more likely to bring down power lines, etc. He's about to discover it for real when we head out for our first round of shoveling today...

Just got a text from the city that a Phase III snow emergency has been declared - no one is allowed on the roads but emergency vehicles.
I'm still going to walk my dog in the middle of the road until folks get walks cleared.
The kids next door have confiscated my shovel so I can't use it. They are doing a great job of keeping up with the snow. I guess I'll have to hire them.

Last night the wife and I drove down to the Capital Grille for dinner.
On the way there, it took an hour to get through the final 2,000 feet of I 83. On the way back, it was a real white-knuckle experience. In between the two drives, I had some very tasty short ribs.

Lissa, good luck with that dog-walking in the middle of the street thing. Last night my husband was driving home after 7 p.m. and two people were walking in his lane, in the dark. He was very grateful he was able to swerve around them as no one was coming in the other direction.

Dahlink, there are no other alternatives, until people either shovel their walks or pedestrians break a path. I do keep an eye out for vehicles (and I know every place I can get off the road within 10 blocks of my house). But, a nearly 18 year old, knee high chow mutt with bad arthritis just can't push through drifts past my waist.
Heck, I can't break through the really big drifts.

Ah yes Eve, my back has also aged a good 4-5 yrs this past week. So don't think mine would do you any good!

Yes, I understand the problem, Lissa, but I hope you will go out before dark, if possible! We do shovel our sidewalks, but I don't think any shoveling is going to be done today--no point!

I have a hostage, er guest; so i have help in shoveling. Had to shovel a "potty space" for my 11 year old shepard, because even i just can't walk out the door.. it's a good 4 feet here at least, which puts it mid ribs. I figure a good pot of black beans and rice should give the energy needed to clear this oh, um tomorrow, i guess.

Yes, please be careful out there walking Conan. As safe as you may be, there are always those who think they are invincible. Did you hear about the guy who was doing donuts in the parking lot of the Green Turtle in Laurel and crashed through the window? C'mon man!

When I think of the typical patron of the Green Turtle, this is what I would expect.

We'll be out before, during and after dark. Conan is deaf and my mother always said I never learned to listen, so I'll keep a sharp eye out, if my glasses aren't covered in snow.
I wish I could just shovel Conan out a space, but he wants to walk around a bit.
The good news is that the wind and snow mean I'm covered in highly visible white very quickly.

The kitchen door (on a covered patio) was blocked pretty well, but I managed to get it open and shovel a small area for Nikki. Very nearly blew away in the process. My outdoor thermometer has disappeared, and the fence is showing only the very tips. I figure I may get out of here in June.
