...and also Christmas Eve

OwlBarChristmas.jpgI loved the ambiguous feelings of the person who wrote me this e-mail with the subject line "request...":

for a column on Christmas Eve restaurants (downtown or midtown Baltimore) that will be open.  Every year I join my friend to decorate her tree and then we go out to eat.  The last few years it seems that more and more restaurants are closed (as they should be!) on Christmas Eve and we would like to know from out there in restaurant land what poor souls will be open then.  Last year even the Owl Bar was closed! HELP! ...

I did find two links on the Restaurant Association of Maryland's Web site that might eventually be of help. But at the moment, the list of places open Christmas Eve and the one of places open Christmas Day are pretty skimpy.

I'll keep you updated on restaurants that are open both Christmas Eve and Christmas as I learn about them, and if you hear of any, I hope you'll post below.

Aida in Columbia is doing their "Feast of the Seven Fishes" on Christmas Eve. Pretty sure they're closed Christmas Day, though.

Captcha: severe yogi. Hate running into one of those...

Regi's American Bistro in Federal Hill will be open Christmas Eve, serving dinner till 10:00 and bar till 1:00 a.m. Thursday's are also 1/2 price bottles of wine nite, which should get the Christmas vacation off to a spirited start! Regi's will be closed Christmas Day.

Thanks. I hope other restaurateurs will feel free to post here if they are going to be open. EL

We went to Dogwood for Christmas Eve dinner last year and had a wonderful time. We wanted to make it a tradition, but sadly, they're closed now. :(

But, according to Open Table, there's quite a few restaurants open for Christmas Eve, including Alizee, Oceanaire, the Charleston group restaurants and the Mezze group restaurants. I'm sure there's more.

i'm pretty sure dogwood has reopened

I would feel more confident of that if the phone weren't disconnected. EL

Dogwood's phone is still disconnected.

(eyeroll) And I thought I had news....

Open Table shows 41 restaurants open Xmas Eve in Baltimore and 28 closed.

Prime Rib is open on Christmas Eve.

The (short) list of places open for Christmas Day lists Medieval Times but when you go to the Medieval Times website to purchase tix, Fri Dec 25th is blank...

My friends & I have had Christmas Eve dinner at Zorba's in Greektown for the past 10 years or so. The tiny dining area downstairs is very cozy, and the TVs show Greek holiday specials. It's like eating in Grandma's kitchen.

CalicoGal makes an excellent point. It's unclear whether Open Table has confirmed that 41 restaurants will definitely be open on Christmas Eve for lunch and dinner, or whether Open Table has merely confirmed that the other 28 restaurants will definitely be closed that date. As EL would say, it is always best to call a restaurant in question to confirm that it will, indeed, be open. Otherwise, as Captcha says this time around: Efforts grim
