This just in

Susan Reimer rushed over to my desk (OK, she was passing by on the way to some place more important) and told me she just got a tweet that Dogwood Restaurant will be reopening in December. I checked the Web site, and that's what it says.

Interesting!

Does that mean they finally paid their employees? I would hope that was their first order of business.

baltimoregal,
I thought the problem with not paying employees was Jordan's Steakhouse in Ellicott City. I hadn't heard this for Dogwood...

I don't think it was Dogwood that stiffed its employees.

There were comments from people claiming to be unpaid employees of Dogwood.

Or maybe not. I just reread the comments on the original closing and there is nothng there.

I have said before, I know people that worked at Dogwood and did not get paid when they closed. I want Dogwood to do well, I live in Hampden and wish for all the local businesses to do well, but not at the expense of their employees.

And I did not work there, nor have I ever worked anywhere in the food industry in Maryland.

People also had some bad experiences with their catering...as posted in previous blogs.

really, bmoregal...why is it of so much importance that u be kept on notice of their payroll status and what may - or may not- have happened?

i mean..geeez..u aren't an employee there (as u have stated...repeatedly..hhmmm (suspect) )

what concern is it of yours?..really...think about it. are u legal counsel? or just a busybody who gets off on neighborhood drama?

step back...take a look at your own house...stop worrying about something u have absolutely NOTHING to do with..u know..being all that you have "never worked there or anywhere in the restaurant industry (sic) "

Your question may be a legitimate one, but please cool it with the personal attack. We're all concerned with things that aren't strictly our business here. EL

baltimoregal,
The Dogwood employees were paid some time ago. You want them to do well, but you made careless and hurtful comments on this blog without knowing what is really going on? The Dogwood was/is a special place to work and eat. I worked there for 1 1/2 years and they had the lowest turnover of any restaurant I have ever worked for, including my time as a server at Boulevard in San Francisco and Mie N Yu in Georgetown. The low turnover at Dogwood did not just happen by chance. Galen and Bridget, are the nicest "bosses" I have ever had the pleasure of working for in the restaurant business and the camaraderie among the staff was also the best of any place I have ever worked.

They constantly gave struggling employees 2nd and 3rd chances when others would have given up on them. They also gave first chance opportunities to employees where other restaurants of similar caliber would pass. They have made their share of mistakes as new restaurant owners, but they are not striving to do well at the "expense" of their employees.

I, along with other "former" employees will be welcoming guests back for dinner to a better, wiser Dogwood on December 8th.

Oralious, glad to hear this. We will be back!

glad to hear this! i'll be first one waiting at the door dec 8th!
