Next Sunday's review: Azul 17

CarnitasPatria.jpgMy daughter laughed when I told her we had just eaten at Azul 17 because the friends she had been with had spent time at two hot spots in Chicago that same evening: Hub 51 and Bin 36.

Is it a trend in the making?

Next Sunday I'll be reviewing Columbia's new Mexican restaurant and tequila lounge. Anyone who expects Mexican food to be cheap, plentiful and not hip probably isn't going to be happy here. ...

I think you'll be surprised by the place from the moment you walk in. I'm not sure you would guess it was Latin from the decor -- it almost looks Asian, if anything, except for the murals in back.

To find out what I thought of the food at Azul 17, please read my review in the Arts & Entertainment section next Sunday.

Shill spam at 1:38 AM! (Moreover, I really doubt that someone from the German branch of that infamous European group of electronics websites has actually dined at a restaurant in Howard County.)

I love being surprised by new places. Can't wait for your review.

Wish i could read it now !!!
Why? Because i will know what to get and what to avoid when i meet my girlfriends there for dinner tomorrow night!

Looks like Sam Sessa beat you to the punch, at least for the beverage review...

Actually, after he went he brought me the menu and convinced me that it was worth a review. EL

I went to Azul 17, on Saturday the 23rd to enjoy dinner and salsa dancing. One of my girlfriends had called the Tuesday before to make a reservation. When we got to Azul 17 we were informed that no one had put our reservation on the book. As a consultation Amber, the snippy manager, told us just come back another day and she could offer us 10% off our bill. This was not a acceptable option for us, as we had 2 people driving from over 45 minutes away to join us. We did inform Amber that our intent was to have dinner and stay the whole rest of the evening in the establishment. After a lot of proding from us we were given a small table in the bar area and Amber did buy us our first round of drinks. She said she would try to get us a table in the dining room, which never happened. As the evening went on we had to keep hunting her down to see if she would be able to accommodate us and we kept being put off. After our first round of drinks we decided to hang around a little bit longer to see if we could possible get a table and ordered another round of drinks. After waiting a over a half of an hour for our second round of drinks we decided that Azul 17 wasn't really interested in our business and hit the road.

Our waitress, Krista I believe, was way more helpful then the manager. I have to say that I have never experienced a manager to be so rude and non accommodating. I do realize we were there on restaurant week, which does add stress to the management and staff, but even with that allowance our situation was not handled correctly.

Here is the e-mail I received back after voicing my complaint.

We apologize for your reservation not being on the books but we were fully booked for restaurant week & the salsa night event. We did our best & took all measures to take care of you & your group by buying a round of drinks. We would thank you to understand the unusual circumstances.

I think this is pretty unacceptable still!
