The new Hunan Taste in Catonsville
You know how sometimes things that are important escape your notice and then something reminds you and you realize you made a mistake? That's how I feel about the heads up HowChowBlog gave us under an earlier post about the new Hunan Taste in Catonsville. ...
Several regulars on Chowhound.com, including Warthog who occasionally posts here, have had good meals there, some of them equating it to Grace Garden in Odenton (in authenticity anyway; it's a different region's cuisine).
However, I noticed that theminx, who also occasionally posts here, wasn't quite so enthusiastic in a review on UrbanSpoon.
There doesn't seem to be a Web site yet, but here's the basic info:
Hunan Taste, 718 N. Rolling Road, Catonsville, MD 21228, 410-788-8988.

The folks who do "This is Gonna Be Good" liked it. They have some pics, too.
(They cover enough Baltimore places that they maybe belong in the blog roll.)

LOL...when I first looked at this, I thought the headline read, "The First Human Taste..." and figured it was somehow an extention of the fish-half-alive post.

We went on Friday (reviews from four out of the six attendees are in the Chowhound thread).

The upshot is that it's quite good and certainly a nicer space, but nowhere near the level of amazing food you get at Grace Garden. GG is still the uncontested king of area Chinese restaurants.

I made my second visit to Hunan Taste on Friday as one of Jon Parker's dining companions. While the food is certainly very, very good, I agree with Jon that the food does not come close to the amazingness at Grace Garden.
While I think Hunan Taste is great for the Baltimore-area, I think Grace Garden is great for anywhere. I've taken people who've eaten Chinese food in places from Queens to L.A. to China who have confirmed Grace Garden's true awesomeness.

Not to disagree with the above posts necessarily, I do think the opinion has to be qualified. There is a difference in the perception of the quality of an ethnic cuisine by people who have acquired the taste and those who grew up eating it, be it Italian or Chinese or Thai. etc. Personally, I would give more weight to the opinion of the latter.
