Charles Street: Let's eat

HistoricCharlesStreet.jpgI got word of an event this Saturday, Nov. 7, sponsored by the Historic Charles Street Association that sounds like fun.

Michelle Coiron, who is the association's executive director, says the merchants wanted something like a street fair, so the group put this together last minute.

It's called Let's Eat! Charles Street. Restaurants and bars, including Marie Louise Bistro, Sascha's, Mick O'Shea's, Lumbini, Cazbar, Maisy's, Spirits, Howard's of Mount Vernon, George's on Mount Vernon Square, El Guapito and the Helmand, will have booths. ...

The association will be selling wine and beer provided by Spirits and Brewers Art. Music and live entertainment will also be in the mix. Hours are noon to 6 p.m.

I checked the weather forecast for Saturday, and it's looking good -- sunny and a high in the upper 50s.

The event will be held on Read Street, which will be blocked off between Cathedral and Charles.

Cazbar had a food booth at Artscape. It was pricey, but very, very good.

that's interesting and kinda random. Iggies should get in on that! Should be fun though.

Michelle Coiron,

Can you give any information on the details of this event? Cash at each stand? Purchase tickets at a central location? Cost? Website for additional information? Thanks for your help.

No central location for purchasing tickets. Each restaurant will be selling food at their individual booth. HCSA will be selling the beer and wine from our booth - cash only. Prices to vary. Foods will range from BBQ from Howard's to Sweet Pumpkin with Garlic Sauce from The Helmand! More info on our website www.charlesstreet.net and click on events. Hope to see you there!

Thank you for the website, Ms Coiron, but, for the love of Pete, get rid of that silly intro page! It makes it look like there is nothing there, and the Enter text you are supposed to click on is miniscule.

Thanks for the information. Like many people I normally carry almost no cash and now I know to hit the ATM this afternoon. It would be nice to know price ranges so I know whether to get $100 or $200. Hopefully there is an M&T ATM nearby in case I run out. I plan on riding the subway down and walking to the festival since the weather is forecast to be great. This should be an enjoyable afternoon.

Just got home from the fest. Strongly recommend it to anyone on the fence. Ribs from Howard's $2.00, gyro type sandwich from Cazbar $5.00, baby pumkin and meatballs from Helmand $6.00, a beef taco from El Quapito $2.75, pale ale from Brewer's Art $4.00, not having room for the cassoulet from Marie Louise ($8.00), a darn shame. Others were raving about the pit beef from O'Shea's. No one smoking, beautiful weather, friendly people, very few dogs or small children. What's not to like?

I have photos of the event posted on my blog: http://tinyurl.com/ye9khtq

Festival was definitely a good time. I tried about 4 different items from different places, but I would have to say that the pit beef from Mick O'sheas was by far the best. It was marinated in Grand Marnier, and served with tiger sauce. Heard they may be running it as a special on their menu, definitely worth going there to check it out.

Lissa - We know what you mean about our website! Working on a new one is at the top of our "to do" list. We'll have a new look well in time for the next Let's Eat! Charles Street, or other upcoming HCSA event in the area.
