Snyder's chomps Utz

SnydersOldTyme.jpg

I'm having trouble getting anything else done today I'm so busy linking to breaking news in the paper. Snyder's is buying Utz.

I guess those of us who read this story are divided into two groups: Those who love Snyder's pretzels are saying, "Thank goodness it isn't the other way round" and those who love Utz saying, "Hope they don't ruin the potato chips."

Count me as one of the "Hope they don't ruin the potato chips." My favorites are the BBQ Rippled chips and the Salt and Vinegar.

I'm also in the "hope they don't ruin the potato chips" camp. The original red white an blue bag Utz are my favorite.

In the interest of full disclosure, that was a direct quote from Hal's e-mail informing me of the our story. I've got to read the paper more. EL

Snutz.

Does this mean crab flavored pretzels?
Grandma Pretz kettle pretzels?

Someone will pay dearly if Salt and Vinegar chips are changed. Or rippled sour cream and onion. Or Crab chips. Or good ol' plain. I'm sorry, I have a lot of fond Utz memories.

I'm sort of in both groups. I love Utz's chips (especially the Ridged BBQ and the Honey BBQ) but I prefer Synder's Pretzels (especially their mini sourdough variety).

So I hope they maintain the same quality with both. That said, I'm glad they are keeping all their plants open so no one has to loose their jobs.

Utz for chips, Snyder's for pretzels - works for me! Actually, I'm STILL waiting for some company to to mass produe the chocolate covered ripple potato chips that we bought several years ago at the Herr's factory shop in Pennsylvania after my daughter's class toured the plant. They were expensive but totally covered in chocolate and absolutely marvelous. Snyders does chocolate covered pretzels - why not dip the Utz chips too???

These pretzels are making me thirsty.

RoCK, maybe Snutz should merge with Budweiser. Budsnutz!

Actually Utz does make chocolate covered chips. You might have to buy them directly from their store in Hanover though. We get tins of them every year for Christmas.

Mar, Actually, Utz does do chocolate covered potato chips, and you can even buy them online:

Plain Utz and Plain Mystic Utz are the only chips I will eat. Period. No other brands, and I don't like flavored chips at all. Bottom line is, please don't let them mess them up! Totally a Snyder's sourdough hard pretzel girl too.

Jennifer...jinx, no take backs!

no changes. Chips will be distributed more nationwide. I know this.

Joyce W, I've learned an awful lot from you since reading this blog. So, I believe I know exactly what you're talking about.

I just hope that Snyder's doesn't touch the Grandma Utz line - lard fried deliciousness.

Don't forget that Utz also makes superior corn chips (WAY better than Snyder's, IMO). That's another thing they had better not screw up.

I drove through Hanover on my last trip to Gettysburg. The predominant smell was tortilla chips. I tried the Hanover "Grande" brand soon thereafter. IMHO they beat Doritos by a long shot. I guess I better try the Utz chips before they disappear -- thanks for the tip, Jim!

Hanover (PA) is a pretty little town. I've driven through it on the way to mandolin orchestra gigs to the north.

Next thing you know, Pringle's will buy Snyder's, so it'll all come stamped out of baked bleached potato slurry in cardboard tubes; then Frito Lay will buy Pringle's and fry everything in mad cow beef tallow; then Kashi will buy Frito Lay and everything will taste like tofu strained through a colander made out of stick incense and luan plywood with wet canvas stretched underneath--and we're all screwed.

jl,
Brilliant!

Joyce,
I hope you're right, I'd like to see Utz down here. Zapp's are okay, but they ain't Utz.

Thanks for the info on the chocolate covered chips. I should have clarified that I want to be able to buy them at 7-11 or Wegman's or whereever when I want them and not have to go online. Sorry for the confusion (and I still might buy them online anyway!)

Think about this for a minute......

Chocolate-covered "Crab Chips".............

I saw someone concoct something similar a month or so ago at the Bacon & Beer fest at Clipper City's brewery..........

My earliest pretzel memories are Utz with the white salt. I used to trade part of my lunch to my best friend in 4th grade for her Utz pretzels, and to this day they are my favorite snack food, period! Please don't mess with the Utz pretzels...!

Sorry for the multiple posts, computer glitch on my end. Feel free to delete, Elizabeth.

I hope they maintain the freshness of the products. Utz (best chip ever). Two Good old companies in one - Times they are a changing. For the better we all hope without compromising either of the companies great products- Remember if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I used to love Snyders pretzels (the big sourdough ones) but Utzs' are better. The salt stays on the Utz product but seems to always fall off of Snyders.

I don't think I've ever bought a bag of pretzels in my life.

I've never been in the grocery store and said:"I think I'll pick up a bag of pretzels."

RoCK, you must try the honey wheat pretzels. They are the definitive beer snack with some brown deli mustard to dip them into. IMHO for what that's worth anyway.

Joyce,
I concur wholeheartedly! The honey wheat with mustard are very good.
I used to eat the sourdough pretzel nuggets every day at lunch, but have since slacked off to save on the carb intake.

PLEASE don't screw with the crab chips!

Chocolate-covered "Crab Chips"............. That's just so wrong.

I grew up on Utz potato chips. My grandfather sold them exclusively in his little grocery store. But Middleswarth potato chips, made in Middleburg, PA, and sold in central Pennsylvania, taste even better! We make the hike up to Waynesboro, PA frequently to purchase them.

I don't know Dahlink, that sounds kind of interesting. What about Bacon flavored Utz?

Trixie, if they sold "Big Ass Bacon Utz," would you buy them? Not me!
