Monday afternoon quarterbacking: Umi Sake
I was impressed, as you can tell from my review, at how much the owner of Umi Sake is a presence in her dining room. That used to be a norm for local restaurants, but it's not so true anymore.
Of course, if the owner is also the chef, you hope he or she will stay in the kitchen -- at least until you get your food -- but otherwise it's nice when he or she is out in the dining room making sure things are running smoothly. ...
I would create a Top 10 of local restaurants whose owners are usually visible, but I'm not sure I could come up with 10.
By the way, did you notice for the first time the review appeared on the Web site as soon as I had turned it in and it was edited -- Friday.

I would be interested in hearing from someone who has eaten there and also at Edo Sushi in Cockeysville. My mom and I have a sushi date coming up, and we love Edo. We have been talking about checking out Umi though.

The owner of Catonsville Gourmet is a big presence- he is there seating customers and bussing tables along with the rest of his staff every time I am there.
Also- Papa Delfico, the owner of Chef Paolino. He's always working the register, supervising his staff, or bringing out some delicious dish to the display area.

Been to charleston once, and cinghiale once, Tony Foreman was there both times, and there the WHOLE time too, and was very attentive at both. I swear he has body doubles. But never seen either of them at Petit Louis.

I used to see Dan on most of my visits to Isabella's. He hasn't been there the last couple times I've been in, but when he's there, he sure takes care of folks and fills the room.
