Deep thought on Italian wines

Dan D posted the following very interesting comment earlier. I don't doubt that he knows what he's talking about, but I'm amazed. I'm still dreaming about having wine for lunch every day when we were in Italy, and the fact that you could buy a drinkable bottle in the supermarket for one euro.

I have a lot of enthusiasm.

I don't suppose there is an overwhelming enthusiasm for Italian wines, which is a shame.

We like Italian wines very much, which may be why I assumed Dan D was being ironic.

EL, the lack of enthusiasm I referred to was primarily in response to zero comment on your post under The genius of wine. Also, Italian wine enthusiasts like you and Dahlink (and me) are in the minority when it comes to Italian wine buying in the liquor stores and restaurants. This maybe due to the taste of old world winemaking style of wine which is not to everyone's liking. I am definitely interested in attending the event at the Maryland Science Center.

Interesting. I just hadn't realized. Thanks. EL

As a confirmed wino who picked up the habit of wine with every meal when I lived in Europe (fortunately, I almost never eat breakfast,)let me illustrate the difference between Italian and American attitudes toward alchohol. On Italian movie sets, there are liters of wine on every table during the lunch break. Crew members would stage a wildcat strike if deprived of a few glasses of the grape. At an American film studio where I worked, a meeting was called by the HR director who was shocked to learn that some executives had been seen drinking wine with lunch, in violation of the studio's policy against boozing during business hours. That, he threatened, would have to stop immediately or there would be dire consequences. For the record, I simply found less conspicuous resturants at which to lunch...and imbibe.

Vino Locale!!

Molto Vino Locale!!

Bene

I usually don't comment much about my Italian wine experiences, but I adore Italian wine as well. The event sounds interesting and fun and would bring back lots of wonderful memories.
