The nutritional content of a fried Oreo
OK, our intrepid food editor and Reality Check blogger Sarah KK (she also delivers the mail) has come up with the nutrition, maybe I ought to put that in quotation marks, content for one fried Oreo. We also had a very interesting conversation about what a serving is.
Yes, I know you can figure it out by dividing the number of cookies in a package by the number of servings, but that doesn't mean that two or three Oreos actually is a serving. To me, one Oreo is more than a serving, even though I live by the Four Cookie Rule, that four of anything good (such as Kirchmayr chocolates or cocktail party canapes) is a serving.
Anyway, here's what you'll get with one deep-fried Oreo. I'm not sure what the "Vitamin A RE" means, and neither is Sarah, and I'm not interested enough to call the dietitian to find out: ...

As a high school science teacher, I can tell you that Vitamin A is also known as Retinol. So I assume, RE is "Retinol Equivalent" or something along those lines. Not that we are eating deep-fried Oreos for their nutritional value...
I knew someone would come through for me. :-) EL

OK, so I MIGHT have had three deep-fried Oreos at the fair this weekend. In a word: Stupendous! The icing gets all melty and oozy. Definitely a vast improvement on a regular ol' non-fried Oreo. Though there is room for improvement--they should be using Double Stuffed Oreos. Calories, what calories?

You can now get the Halloween pumpkin-color Oreos. Imagine orange icing oozing out.

As one of my students just pointed out: The recommended daily allowance of Vitamin A is 900 micrograms. That would mean you only need to eat 136 deep fried Oreos to get all the Vitamin A you need in a day. (Sidenote: that is almost 18,000 calories and 1224 grams of fat!!)
Don't encourage them. EL

Hmmm...as my husband and I usually split the fair order of 4 deep fried oreos, that's only 260 calories and 18 grams of fat...not far off a regular candy bar and equivalent to some candy bars.
But so much more decadent.
Yum!

Hmmm, "nutritional content" and "fried Oreo" is an oxymoron. I don't like Oreos enough to do this; however, Milky Way Midnight bars? NOW you're talkin'!

When I read this post, I happened to have a jar of Vlassic Kosher Dill Pickles on my desk. So I read the nutrient content label.
2/3rds of a pickle is 5 calories.
Who eats only 2/3rds of a pickle?
