The Irish pub question
I've been in bed all day with a nasty bug, so I don't have the energy to look for a Comment of the Week. I'm always deathly ill in inverse proportion to the beauty of the day.
However, I'll hope you'll nominate a Comment of the Week for me, or at least discuss this comment that I saved for an entry. I agree with him, but I'm sure someone will be willing to argue the opposing side: ...
While I share this particular vision, I fear that in the meantime, we're just going to have to settle for Yet Another Irish Pub By the Harbor until then.
Don't get me wrong, there are a few I quite enjoy. I just don't need thirty of them.

I hope you didn't get H1N1 from Yum Porchetta.

Not nice, Trip Klaus. Not funny, either.

I thought it was very thoughtful and hilarious

I don't know what it is with Baltimore and Irish beer but the Orioles are having an Octoberfest sponsored by Guiness and Harp.
Lissa, was that you in the Kayak in Dundalk during the latest water main break?

I wish we had a Northern Irish Pub. I need a place to wear my orange shirt.

Nope, EEL. I stick to the Inner Harbor and the Patapsco. Come to think of it, I wore my orange shirt out there this morning. Unless you count having to dodge rabid water taxis and the pirate boat, it seemed safe enough.

My only Irish heritage is orange. When my grandmother became Catholic and married my grandfather her entire family disowned her for the rest of her life.

Well, color me honored!
And naturally, the folks at my preferred Irish pubs know I'm not talking about them, of course.
It's one thing to be in Boston, and surrounded by Paddy McShea O'Reillys and such (rearrange stereotypically Irish names to your liking).
But to my understanding, Baltimore is historically largely Central and Eastern European in cultural heritage? Am I wrong on that count?

EG is right. I've never ventured into any of the places that mark every street corner in Locust Point (for example) but now I wonder what ethnic treats might be available from the kitchen in the back.

Why pick on sweet innocent little YumPo, Trip Klaus and carrot top? Although we know you may be sadly lacking in manners, you two are sadly lacking in education if you believe such drivel.

Do people still see The Orange as the color of the oppressor? I'm out of touch.
My one piece of advice on the food side of things is to seek out a reubens at a Jewish delis and not confuse the corned beef heritage with the Irish. The James Joyce attempts to bridge the gap, but it's clearly too large of a task. That said, the pub apps are decent there. I'm glad to see the pic sports the "the" in the name. I thought I was the only one who referred to the place as The James Joyce.

I think orange Irish are protestants and green Irish are Catholics.
More beer confusion. In addition to the Oriole's Octoberfest sponsored by Irish beer we have customers of an Irish pub sitting under an umbrella with an English beer logo.
