Next Sunday's review: Maisy's

Maisy%27s3.jpgNext Sunday I review Maisy's, the restaurant that opened this summer where Copra used to be on N. Charles Street. I wish them well, but I have no idea why restaurants stay open for dinner along this stretch of Charles; the customers just don't seem to be there. I'm sure Maisy's does a decent lunch business, but I wonder who comes here for dinner.

Yet several restaurants do, and they seem to be surviving if not thriving.

Parking isn't difficult if you're willing to go around the block a time or two. And something I forgot to mention in my review: Sunday through Wednesday, Maisy's has a New York strip steak dinner for $11.95.

I've had lunch their twice. It was pretty busy both times. Had the same thing, too - split a white four cheese pizza with a co-worker. Light but filling, tasty (might be a bit salty for some), fresh herbs add nice notes. My boss, who is Bulgarian, said it was just like something her grandmother used to make. She was very happy with it.

Both times, we had the same very professional waitress. She was pleasant, told us up front that the pizza should be shared, didn't bad an eyelid at us drinking water, wasn't obtrusive but took care of everything, including bringing the check at the right time. I'm most impressed with that particular waitress, and if the rest of the staff there is as good as her, they should do well.

I do so miss working downtown!! I know of a private parking pad just a couple of blocks from there that I can still use, but no time in my schedule to drive an hour each way for lunch. Sigh!

I have eaten there a few times for dinner. The pizza was great. I also like the bison burger. The prices are very reasonable (I don’t think there was anything over $20- maybe the crab cakes). I had met the owner before when he worked as Copra’s bar manager. He is very professional. So it does not surprise me that staff would be the same.

The bison burger there is phenomenal, a must have with the spicy mustard that comes on the side. The bun could use toasting however, but all in all I enjoyed it for lunch and it was huge, very filling.
