New restaurant opening in Fells Point

samskid.JPG

Take a look at the photo Midnight Sun Sam sent me. Note the name of the place that's opening where Mehek used to be at 811 S. Broadway. Now try to guess what kind of food Sam's Kid (no relation to our Sam) will be serving.

Answer below. ...

Here's the e-mail Sam sent me with the picture:

According to the sign, it will be Pan-Asian tapas. Interesting. Bad name, though. Sam's Kid? I guess it's better than 13.5%.

They'll be serving young goat?

COTW nomination to Hal.
Baaaad.

What happens when we combine Sam's Kid with Green Cilantro? Or worse we throw in some pine nuts.

Any of you ever seen the great British cult film "Eat the Rich?"

Green Cilantro has a sign in the window that says "Closed for repairs re-open soon" by the way, the lady that owns Sam's Kid has an interesting background in DC.

Tell us more. EL

Sam's kid? as in Son of Sam? I don't think I will be walking down that side of the block, let alone in that door!

Another tapas restaurant? Just seems like code for "normal portion instead of "serves 2 people" Not an actual complaint, just saying.

Since when are tapas Asian, or pan-Asian for that matter?

Good point Chris McCalister.

Aren't asian tapas called Dim sum? Couldn't we call tapas "Spanish Dim Sum" ???

Picked up their menu today and am glad to see they offer carry-out and delivery. A little intimidated by their giant purple modern couch. Offerings include small plates (edamame, tempura, spring rolls), salads, noodle soups, big plates (pad thai, shrimp & coconut, lime noodles), sushi (nigiri, california, "crunchy"), and whatnot.

Ok, because I had it on the brain all day, I got carry-out from Sam's Kid last night. Made it past the purple couch. Two other people were waiting to grab their carry-out when I got there, and there were two tables of people seated. The owner or manager has a crazy piercing in the back of her neck. I got vegetable tempura and Dan Dan noodles. The amount of food definitely covers two meals for me, and if I wanted I probably could have stretched it out to three. I thought it was really good. Dan Dan is "spicy szechuan pork in peanut sesame sauce, spinach, napa cabbage, bok choy, bean sprouts with egg noodle." The broth came in a separate container. The only negative was that the broth was pretty salty, but I anticipate broth to be salty, so I wasn't too upset. The greens listed were fresh and not overcooked. The pork was ground and spicy, but not so spicy as to make me cry. The noodles were noodles. The tempura vegetables were also fresh - big slices of carrot and zucchini, green beans, and broccoli. Very lightly battered, but left a nice grease spot on the doily they were piled on. I look forward to my leftovers and will definitely get carry-out there again.

Thanks! EL
