A brand new Alizee and Top 10 Wednesday

Alizee3.jpg

The lead item in my Table Talk column this week is about Alizee, the restaurant in the Inn at the Colonnade. Now I hope the owner will do something about the interior space. I just don't think you can have a faux library in the middle of your dining room when your food is so comparatively cutting-edge. I'd love to know if any of you has tried it.

I also write about Dining Out for Life and the changes at Cafe Gia. ...

As for Top 10, the one that appeared in the paper today had a slight glitch, which I promise was not on the proof. No. 4 disappeared in the print edition. I know I shouldn't laugh, but it looks pretty funny.

Four comments got in, three by regulars.

EL had you heard or mentioned that Java Journeys in Owings Mills was closing? I've been away for a bit cause of surgery but I'm on the mend and catching up.
Additionally, my neighborhood coffee place Java Mamas is now featuring lunch and dinner daily except Sundays when they are closed. I really hope this works out for them, it's upsetting to see all the mom and pop shops closing.
We may find ourselves back where we started with nothing but Starbucks...

No, I don't even know about Java Journeys. Welcome back. EL

Hey Joyce - Good to see you back! Hope the recovery is going well.

Thanks Trixie - Doing well recovering fine but desktop down and had to buy emergency laptop!

How do you pronounce the name of that establishment? In my head, I say "Ally-zay" but that's probably wrong. I don't like going to places if I don't know the correct pronunciation of the name. That's just asking for trouble.

I think that's right. EL

El, in your Table Talk column on Alizee you stated 'wines available at retail price'. When I checked their wine list I found the usual mark up. Can you clarify?

Yes. Whatever they are charging at their retail shop next door, they are charging in the restaurant. EL

Then their retail shop's price is very inflated and it's deceptive to give the impression that you are getting a good deal ordering wine in the restaurant. Unlike some other wine bars that I've been to, the Wine Market, Iron Bridge, where their price of the wine is only modestly above retail in most liquor stores, even when a corkage fee is charged you still pay less than at Alizee.

Good to know. Thanks. EL
