Welcome to some new voices

I've noticed that in the past week we've had some new commenters here, and I'm delighted. Welcome.

This seems like a good time to direct you to our commenting how to's. They boil down to 1) be civil to other commenters and 2) remember this isn't my personal blog. It's the Sun's blog, and it is monitored by the higher ups.

I'll also point out the directions for linking, although you certainly don't have to use them if you'd rather just include the Web address. You can find both posts at a later date under the Categories to the right on the main page. ...

Now that you're talking, maybe you'll be interested in participating in our live chat. We've had one and will have another next Monday. You might want to vote on its subject on the first-ever Dining@Large poll, which should be open for the rest of the day. I should have put an "Other" choice, but I didn't, so if there's something else you'd like to chat about, please post a comment suggesting it below.

By the way, I'm thinking of holding the chat at noon this time rather than 11 a.m. Maybe that will be a better time for those of you who want to take part at work.

I'd like to do what hmpstd suggested and make the answers follow the questions more logically, but that will only work if you post at least some of your comments and questions in advance.

I still don't understand how to link websites even after following the directions provided. I am a bit technologically challenged, though.

Some long-time voices are missing. Where's Bucky? Where's Owl Meat?

You may have missed this final post by Bucky. Owl Meat's column can be found on Tuesdays on Midnight Sun, or you can visit his blog Owl Meat Apocrypha. EL

I for one don't miss them, (see above) I read your blog religiously , and comment when I have something to say, which is not often. Some people feel compelled to say anything, as long as they are in print, whether it has to do with the subject at hand or not. Maybe they are on vacation?

MDtopdad, many of us love the topic swerves on this blog. It's part of the fun and what makes this blog different.

Just because OMG and Bucky engaged in that fun doesn't mean they they comment just to see themselves in print.

I usually only comment when I have nothing to say. Right now I do have something to say, but I'd better not say it.

MDtopdad - Blahhhh - you can probably take the fun out of anything - love Bucky and OMG

MDtopdad, some of our minds work a little differently. We see a connection you may have missed. Fortunately not everyone thinks the same way, or life would be terribly predictable and not much fun, wouldn't it?

Topic discussions sometimes take on a "stream of consciousness" feel..kinda like daydreaming and trying to remember where it started

WOW I can see that no one else here feels as I do. Just for the record, Kitkat, I am a lot of fun to be around, I guess my stream of consciousness is a little more focussed. I do enjoy the lively banter that you regulars seem to provide, however off the topic you all may ramble.
Sorry to any and all If I offended.

YumPorchetta ,

If everyone thinks alike then nobody is thinking

I stink therefore I am.
No...That's not right
I yam what I yam.
No.. Oh never mind.

Brother Bim, you are wise indeed. "There will be no laughter, except the laugh of triumph over a defeated enemy. There will be no art, no literature, no science...There will be no curiosity, no enjoyment of the process of life. All competing pleasures will be destroyed..."

Ah, no one's offended. Lots of us find Bucky and OMG to be quite amusing and have enjoyed their guest posts.

I know "topic drift" has been discussed a lot, and the consensus seems to be that it often leads to the most interesting conversations. I find the variety of opinions and experiences people bring here to be one of this blogs greatest assets. EL gives us a topic ("The Holy Roman Empire was neither holy nor Roman - discuss"), and we go!

MDtopdad, please keep commenting when you feel you've got something you'd like to add! Even if you don't always enjoy the posts from other people, I'm sure we'd all welcome your input on whatever strikes your fancy.

NotableM, did you try copying and pasting the instructions?

the link here

Substitute "the Web address here" for whatever you want to link to, like "http://www.yahoo.com" - make sure to use the quotations, which I left off for a long time...

Ha! I just screwed up the instructions! Oh boy... Damn you, Percocets!

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Oh, um, kohlrabi.

Kohlrabi looks as funny as it sounds.

That is just so 80's, YumPo!

Duran Duran: New Wave Pop Princes or Satan's Minions? Discuss.

YumPo, can't they be both?

Duran Duran was neither holy nor Roman, but Charlemagne was a satanic minion.

Hats off to MDtopdad. When several people took issue with his post, he apologized if anyone was offended. That's polite bloghavior...and makes him a welcome guest here at Club Tropic...uhhh, Topic...Drift.

Thank you Michael, I would like to to believe that "I I wuz razed rite!" My momma up in heaven would be so proud!!!

Of the light in my room:
Its mood swings,
Dark-morning glooms,
Summer ecstasies.

Spider on the wall,
Lamp burning late,
Shoes left by the bed,
I'm your humble scribe.

Dust balls, simple souls
Conferring in the corner.
The pearl earring she lost,
Still to be found.

Silence of falling snow,
Night vanishing without trace,
Only to return.
I'm your humble scribe.

I hardly ever comment but, tonight, oy. I thought I would take my wife for a special occasion to Woodberry Kitchen since everyone raves about it. Even the NY Times. (I shoulda known!) Seated promptly. Asked server for Frederick craft beer - sorry, out.
Asked for scallop supper - sorry, out. Ordered the crabcake while server "hovered". (Duh, can't we be told what's off the menu in advance?) Got the Rock Oysters - baked in the oven - luke warm - no taste. Crab cake cold. Second time in my life I said something. Same cake comes back two bites light somewhat warmer but not hot. I ask for check. Manager comes back to comp for the crab cake. Fine. Crab cake is on the bill! Server apologizes for "crossd messages". Manager comes back again. Comps dinner. The only person who did his job other than the Manager was the valet parker. Won't be back there again.

Oh, phishlover, I'm sorry. We have had much better experiences at Woodberry Kitchen than you did.

To take another swerve, we were thrilled when Baltimore's own Carol Greider won the Nobel Prize for Medicine yesterday. I laughed out loud when she was asked if she expected that 5 a.m. phone call. Her response borrowed from Monty Python's "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition." Go, Carol!

Monty Python and Star Trek quotes are always in good taste.
