The Unsung Commenter Award winner is...
On May 24, 2007, about a month after Dining@Large started, Darlene posted her first comment. (I presume she had been reading along almost from the beginning and finally got up her nerve to comment, but I don't know.)
Since then she's been a regular but not flashy contributor to the blog, one who is always supportive and good-natured to me and to other commenters. She's one of the reasons Dining@Large has a reputation for civility.
What, you don't remember any Darlene? That simply means you started dropping by recently. Sometime in February or March, 2008, she decided to spread her wings and take on a cool new blog name.
You know her as Dahlink.

Yeah! A well deserved winner. Dahlink, when I first started lurking, you always stood out to me and I looked forward to your posts. You do come across with the element of class and civility. You definitely are one of the main reasons why this blog is so great.

Yay! What does she get, what does she get???
Our food editor has contributed a very handsome book, "The Oxford Companion to American Food and Drink." If Dahlink will e-mail me her address, I'll send it along. EL

'cos you have friends.
Don't give up
You're not beaten yet.
Don't give up
I know you can make it good..."

Viva la joia! was in her lips --
Viva la joia! was in her eyes.

What they all said. Bless you!
I had the pleasure of meeting Dahlink and several others at RtSO's funeral last winter (she very thoughtfully wore a "Dahlink" nymtag).
So I'm guessing the photo is, what, two ... three years old??

Darling! Nobody can be exactly like me. Sometimes even I have trouble doing it.
Posted by: Tallulah Bankhead | August 19, 2009 7:24 PM
EL as usual, you have made an excellent choice in Dahlink.
I hope this blog lasts forever and people like Dahlink continue to post. Congrats Dahlink.

I'm not the best in the memory department, but I think Dahlink may have been the one that gave me the moniker "Voice of Reason".
In recent times I've abandoned that moniker because of the heaviness of the baggage, but I very much appreciated it at the time.
Posted by: Hal Laurent | August 19, 2009 8:55 PM
Dahlink is certainly one of the voices that make this blog such a pleasure to read.

Here's to Dahlink, one of the founding parents of the Sandbox.

Speaking of civility , have you noticed that Anne Arundel county has a problem with it.

Thanks, YP! Life without FB during the day is going to be much less entertaining. But, On the bright side, I'll be here much more to comment.
I feel ya, Eve!
It seems to me
I could live my life
A lot better than I think I am
I guess thats why they call me
They call me the workin man

Canon, you gave me a very big smile. My family commented on what a great choice EL made with the photo (giggle).
Hal, I did indeed dub you the "Voice of Reason," but you came up with the VoR honorific yourself. Shall I become Dahlink, UCA? Nah ...
Many thanks to all of you who bring some much-needed fun into my life every day (and some excellent food tips as well).
Posted by: Dahlink | August 20, 2009 6:39 AM
Congratulations, Dahlink. Your bright, good-natured posts are among the reasons I hit the D@L icon on my 'Favorites' daily.
Posted by: Michael A. Gray | August 20, 2009 6:46 AM
Congrats Dahlink!
I vaguely remember her as Darlene, and am happy she stuck around as Dahlink.
Hey Joyce,
I guess that means your farm won't get as much attention?
Posted by: PCB Rob | August 20, 2009 8:52 AM
Hey, Rob, you'd be guessing right - until I get FB on my new improved cell phone!
Anybody wants to tell me anything during slave hours, e-mail address is on FB for the rest of you who can still get it!
Posted by: Joyce W. working for The Man | August 20, 2009 9:20 AM
Joyce,
You must have real good eyesight to do the farm stuff on a cell phone.
I can do FB at work but I don't do it often, don't want The Man to get mad.
Posted by: PCB Rob | August 20, 2009 11:47 AM
Congrats to Dahlink
Posted by: LEC | August 20, 2009 1:38 PM
Yay for Dahlink!! Her classiness always shows, and she definitely add a "grace note" to D@L.
Bucky, welcome back ... we missed ya!
Posted by: Dottie | August 20, 2009 10:17 PM
Congrats Dahlink!
I remember back when you were Darlene, too.
Besides your general loyalty to the blog, I love your talent for stepping in at just the right moment when things start to turn ugly and change (or attempt to change) the subject. It's like the perfect guest at a dinner party, who always comes to the rescue of the host and the other guests.

Just for the record, I did a little search and discovered that I assumed my true nom de blog early in February 2008.
Thanks to all my blog friends for their good wishes!
