The best fast food in America
![]()
Thanks to LEC for bringing this exciting news to my attention: Esquire magazine has named In-N-Out Burger the best fast food in America. This was determined by a survey of "top chefs."
Not that the news does us much good here in Baltimore.
How's this for an accolade? ...
"It's the perfect example of classic American fast food. It satisfies my craving for meat, crisp fries, and their special sauce."

In-N-Out, well deserved! The best tasting and best value.

I want to know where they came up with that name. There's no need to hurry good food.

I believe my first ever D@L comment was about the supremeness of In n Out burgers... but I have never heard the fries referred to as "crisp" - even when ordered well done - so that guy must be confused.

In-N-Out is to burgers as G&M is to crab cakes.
My youngest daughter much prefers Smash Burgers - a Denver area chain expanding into the midwest - to In-N-Out. Since she is 15 years old there is no disputing the fact.
However, the t-shirt from In-N-Out is second to none.

Camille, I suspect that teenage boys came up with the name.

OK, admittedly, I've only been to In-N-Out twice - once in CA, once in AZ. Perfectly fine burger, but I wouldn't sing songs about it. I was more impressed with the fact that the employees really seemed to like working there.
Now, a Five Guys burger...that gets me singing!
But trust me, since I'm tone deaf, you don't want to hear me sing!

As someone who has lived in Arizona for the last 6 yrs I will give In-N-Out a lot of credit. Their employees at the stores I've been to are very polite and very efficient. Whoever trains them does an excellent job (most bars/restaurants should take lessons from them).
While they are fast food, it is not Burger King/McD fast. You have to wait several minutes for your hot & fresh food.
I've never been much for their sauce and certainly don't obsessed over their food but they provide good food for the price with first class (especially for a fast food place) service.

When I saw that article at the Esquire website earlier this week I also clicked on a link they had for the "Best Bar in America" and low and behold our own Brewer's Art was ranked #1. You may have already reported that in the past, so sorry if this is old news, but I thought it was neat to see a local place in the top spot. Of course, who knows what the methodology truly is to make sure a list.

EL can this be true? Have you checked? Brewer's Art the best bar in America. Did I miss it? I've only been there a few times and it's been mostly mobbed and noisy. Not really my idea of a great "bar". Food is pretty good in the restaurant.

I can't speak for In n Out, I'll take Five Guys locally and Steak and Shake out in the midwest and Florida. (The closest to us is in eastern Ohio, about 45 minutes from the WVa border on I-70.

Honorable mentions for Chipotle and Five Guys are okay, I guess...

you could vote on line for best bar in America...I guess Brewers Art has their loyal fans...

I've only been to Brewer's Art once and had a lovely time, but their beer is second to none.

For fast food I'll take Culvers. Burgers, pot roast sandwiches, and fried chicken. Great rootbeer.
For bar food my vote goes to Victory in Downingtown, PA. Their Hop Devil on cask is my favorite beer.

I have never eaten at In and Out so I can't say much, but the picture doesn't look at all appetizing and looks slightly disgusting. The bun, the American cheese, the disgusting-looking sauce. Pass. Plus I never understand why you would put lettuce and tomato on a hot sandwich.

Here's the Brewer's Art Link.http://baltimore.bizjournals.com/baltimore/stories/2009/04/20/daily4.html
In-n-out is wonderful. First thing I do on the Coast is stop in one. Five Guys is merely OK

I figured it would be in-n-out. Even Julie Child sings it's praises. I don't know if the there is a chain that can rival the tastiness of this burger.

InNOut's award is richly deserved.
I don't see how anyone can trash it, at least one of the elements is bound to be enjoyed by all from the bun to the amazing cheese to the burger to the fresh lettuce and tomato, its ridiculous. Plus the secret menu to modify to surprising variety.
I actually like ordering their 'grilled cheese' basically the burger without the burger and a extra dose of that cheese.
