Silver Palate Cookbook author dies

Sheila Lukins, the author of the Silver Palate Cookbook and many others, has died of brain cancer at age 66. Thanks to John McIntyre for sending me the link to the NPR story.

"Letter from MKE": Seven weeks and counting back in the homeland, beer-soaked brats and real cheddar cheese and Brewers (eh) and Packers (yes!). I've had meals at several eateries, all of them on the loud side, decibally speaking. John Hawks Pub is a winner hands-down with its riverwalk tables. (The Riverwalk is especially sweet given the recent autumnal temps.) Enjoyed an incredible Friday fish fry at Oakcrest Tavern in Shorewood; breaded cod with house-made tartar sauce. Not one to order dessert, my friend Anne coerced me to try the chocolate cake which was indeed decadent - warm and stuffed with more chocolate and swimming in fresh whipped cream. Needless to say, I eschewed the bus home in favor of a brisk walk!

I hope all is well in the Sandbox!

Hey Piano Rob!
Good to hear from you again! I'm not one to order dessert either (usually too full) but that cake sounds good.

Did you know that the Ravens play the Packers in Lambeau this year?

Wow, Piano Rob, that chocolate cake sounds like food porn!

Joyce - Food porn, yes; it was "Christmas in the mouth."

PCB - I have been lucky enough to reconnect with a buddy who is taking me to GB for that Ravens game. Would, however, I were fortunate to see the other purple team, if you get my drift.

Piano Rob - Yeah. Ravens vs Vikings will probably be a much more interesting game than Ravens vs Packers.

To stay on the food topic, you can probably get good hot dogs at either game.

Topic drift back to the original topic of the post:

I still have my original copy of "The Silver Palate Cookbook" which I bought when I was still in school. I remember how exotic and exciting the recipes seemed, yet the results usually turned out great and were ones you could turn to if you wanted to impress guests.

How sad to hear of Ms. Luskins' death, and at only 66.

Thank you, YumPo. Attention must be paid.
