I want some local strawberries NOW. I can't wait until the weekend markets.
Where can I get them in a 10-mile radius of the Sun?

Darn it! An hour too late. The University of Maryland, Baltimore has a *small* farmers market every Tuesday from 10:30-2:30. Picked up a quart pf strawberries myself today...

I think there is a truck on Old Court by the entrance to the JFX that has local strawberries. I wouldn't swear to it since I haven't been by there in awhile.

Catonsville FM is tomorrow morning at 10:00. I know that's not NOW, but it is better than Saturday and there'll be several different vendors with strawberries. Good luck.
Thanks to you both. Good tips. EL

This isn't anywhere near the Sun, but I got some delicious Eastern Shore strawberries at Misty Valley Farms, a fruit stand on the corner of Falls and Shawan Roads. They made great strawberry rhubarb crisp.

I think Kenilworth Farmer's Market is on Tuesday from 4-7.

I got some beautiful ones on Sunday from Steve at Planet Produce in Belvedere Square. He seemed to have plenty.

Fresh strawberries were everywhere here a couple months ago, and Florida is still producing them, although they seem to be waning.

Fl Rob, my friend who lives near Tampa says they have onions that are grown in the strawberry fields on alternate years. She says they are sweet and have a slight strawberry flavor - do you have that where you live too?
BTW, I seem to remember her kids being off of school at least 2 months ago for the Strawberry Festival.

I work at Johns Hopkins east Baltimore campus, and this morning we had an email announcing we will now have a Farmers Market here at the out patient center every Thursday from 10-2. I'll let you know if I see strawberries tomorrow.

Joyce,
Around here, the only thing that grows well are pine and palm trees. I'm too close to the coast and the soil is too sandy.
Maybe that's how Vidalia onions get so sweet; perhaps they alternate with strawberries too.

PCB Rob,
I don't think that you're within a 10 mile radius of The Sun.:-)

Eddie's on Eager Street gets local strawberries en masse and is easy to reach from the Sun (between Charles and Cathedral).

The produce stand on Harford Road, about a block above Taylor Avenue had strawberries last night after work.
The stand on Joppa Road, just east of Loch Raven - across from Goodwill? - had strawberries on Saturday.
I did not inquire as to the origins of either. They were both good. Not pick-'em-in-your-grandmother's-backyard good, but then, my grandmother has been dead for 30 years, so I could be mis-remembering.

Are you talking about Harold's? I worked there when I was a teenager. It's changed a lot since then.

Roadside stands sell Plant City strawberries in Palm Beach County, but Publix is selling California strawberries. Go figure!

And teenagers are still work there!
I knew both stands had men's first names but couldn't remember which ones.

Strawberries are available at the new Farmers Market today at Johns Hopkins Outpatient center on Broadway. But judging from the long line when I went at 10:30, I don't know how long they will last.

I believe the stand on Harford Rd is called George's.

bra1nchild,
The Publix up here was selling the Plant City strawberries earlier this year.

How about Mill Valley on Sisson St.?
They are open Thursday through Sunday.
Last week they had no strawberries because One Straw Farm had had a freeze on the previous Monday night. I would guess that they have strawberries now.

How local? The best strawberries we've had this season come to the Bel Air Saturday market from York, PA. Definitely tastier than the "more local" varieties. And -- BONUS! -- they have a variety that is almost as good that they grow through the summer. Fresh "local" strawberries in August ... yum!

bra1nchild!
I was at the Publix up here this afternoon, and sure enough, the strawberries were from CA.I guess Plant City is done for the year.
And as much as I'd like to help the Governator out, I didn't buy them.

Ain't the produce stand in Parkville named "George's"?

MD Canon, which booth had the good strawberries? Thank you!
