The cupcake with the rose on top

CupcakeHeaven.jpg

So I'm shopping at Whole Foods this morning and my basket is filled with healthful foods: organic spinach; blueberries; Earthbound Herb Salad Mix, which deserves a post in itself; air-chilled, no-hormone chicken breasts; Fage yogurts -- you get the idea.

I get to the bakery in back, and sitting in the case is the most charming collection of cupcakes imaginable.

There are four varieties artfully arranged on a marble slab: one with an enormous pink rose on top (it looks as if it will topple over with the weight of the rose); one with a bunch of tiny, perfect lavender grapes; one with pale green grapes; and one unexpectedly topped with a pale green frog with its pink tongue stuck out.

I'm in love.

I couldn't afford to buy them all to photograph (I didn't have my camera with me), so you can't get the full effect. They cost $3.49 each.

Oddly, I don't have much interest in eating my cupcake. I just like looking at it.

Sweet Fancy Diabetes, that looks like a frostring sculpture with a tiny cupcake base.

I've seen cupcakes with roses on them before.....if you could only buy one, should have gone for the frog with the tongue sticking out......NEVER saw one of those.
P.S. I will eat the rose one if you go back and buy the frog one to photograph.

Cake is just the icing delivery system. -Alton Brown (and I tend to agree)

I didn't use the correct link in the post before.

That just looks like you'll be sucking frosting.

I think WF cakes are kind of gross. The frostings just seem to be solid greasy butter. If you get one of their whole cakes and let it sit a day or two, when you cut into it the cake part will be soaked with butter icing grease. BLECH

Has anyone found a whole grain bread at WF that they like?

I'm totally into their pain de campagne right now, but it's not for everyone. EL

Dahlink, I do a lot of breadmaking (I make all the bread we eat at my house), and I can tell you that making palatable whole grain breads that don't contain ingredients you can't easily pronounce is not an easy task.

Depending, of course, on your personal definition of palatable.

"Depending, of course, on your personal definition of palatable."

Hal, and your definition of easily pronounceable. ;)

I attended a bridal shower today where creme de menthe cake was served. Mmmmm. Haven't had that in a long time.

A creme de menthe cake at a shower suggests one of two things: an older bride or a bride who smokes Newports.

Creme de menthe cake? Blech. Reminds me of a truck stop prostitute I used to date when I was running meth for the Jacuzzi family.

I took a nap earlier and now I can't sleep. Just watched the Heartbreak Kid on HBO...
visited the blog and this comment from RoCK made me laugh, right out loud.

Yeah, RoCK's comment was great. I'll have to have a creme de menthe cake if I ever get (gods forbid) married.

You can stop the abuse now, thanks.

A cake with the mouth wash built in.

I like creme de menthe cake, NotableM. I think it is a great choice for a festive event.

It's a real thiing? I thought you were joking.

NotableM - My mom used to make creme de menthe brownies when I was a kid, but haven't had them in years. Your post brought back good memories!

Hey, before you use language like that, how about a little warning.

Earmuffs!

Earmuffs!

This cupcake looks a lot better than the cupcake wedding cake I saw this weekend...

EL,
Anonymous' comment at 2:02pm should be probably be deleted.

Thanks. Not very elegantly expressed, huh. EL

haha, man, I wish I would have gotten here in time to see the inappropriate comment.

CantonKate, it wasn't that good. Just a bit scatological.
