Sandbox vs. Wordville

Professor John has a post on You Don't Say about nicknames and how they come about. It's interesting and well-reasoned, but my feeling is that he can take the high road because his blog ended up with such a good one.

Meanwhile over in Owlville, a cautionary tale.

it IS true that Wordville is way cooler than "the sandbox"...

I do like Wordville over the Sandbox as well.

Quite curious that JM promotes the organic nickname genesis considering the post on his blog called Name Yourself, where he asks people to suggest nicknames.

Most curious. ;-)

I'm curious as to why this question has come up. Was it, EL, an idle musing - a "Hmmmmmm...." - on your part? Or, is this a serious dislike too long held silent?

When I first read the appellation, I thought it was pretty damn dumb. Denying acknowledgement was really the only course. Then, of course, Bird went off on how displeased he was by it and I was compelled to make the term a part of my life. That said, it is my instinct that banishment - or any other attempt to rid this blog of the nickname - would be futile. Personally, I would look upon such an attempt as closing the door on RtSO.

Neither. It was being discussed in the comments under 16 Top 10s, and when I went back to read them I was struck by how many people didn't seem to like it, as well as Anonymous' comment that RtSO regretted having said it. The link is in my earlier post today. EL

Ira Levine, did you actually read JM's blog post about this?

hal that link failed

Sorry. Try this one.

Then one day a Sandboxer mentioned having been over at Wordville ..

She used the term on the post asking for nicknames. See for yourself. Not "then one day".

The fog of history is not so obscure when there is an electronic paper trail. :-P

As the "she" in question, Ira Levine, I referred to Wordville while here on this blog before McI asked for suggestions.

John, the rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Zoinks, Scoob -- a R-R-R-Robert ghost...!

Anyone recall the Seinfeld episode where George wants to nickname himself "T-Bone"?
