Next Sunday's review: Village Square Cafe

PX00229_9.JPG

Next Sunday my review of the Village Square Cafe in the Village of Cross Keys will appear in the Arts & Entertainment section.

Originally it was a restaurant I thought Other Reviewer Richard would review, but he happened to know the chef so he recused himself. And once the cafe -- which has a liquor license, by the way, although it's been primarily a breakfast and lunch place till now -- started serving dinner three nights a week, it became more the kind of restaurant I review. ...

Interestingly, when it was time to pay something happened that has never happened to me before. The owner came to our table to say that the credit card machine wasn't working, and she would have to take our information down and run it through later.

That didn't seem like a big deal to me (after all, the Sun was paying), but she was upset enough to go to every table and explain at length, which took forever.

This brings up an interesting question: What name is on the credit card? Certainly not your own and not The Sun. Or does it change every time?

RiE--you seriously think she will tell us that?

Looking forward to this review. I would love to see you review some of the restaurant's in Hampden.

I've done them all at one time or another, or the other reviewer has. EL

RiE - I've been assuming that Therapist Husband has a different last name. Perhaps Visa knows her as Elizabeth Zen.

(This may be the 2nd or 3rd post. I've gotten "no blog id" twice.)

I've gotten free coffee at Starbucks twice when the machine wasn't working.

I'm confused. How did they give you the free coffee if the machine wasn't working?

The cash register computer - sorry - long weekend and very tired!

It isn't difficult to get temporary, disposable credit card numbers online. It is legal, you do pay the bill and all.

I've looked in to it because I had my cc number stolen once, but decided it was more hassle than dealing with the very nice and competent people at AmEx.

This month's Consumer Reports had an item about "virtual credit cards." I had never heard of them before.

Issuers including Bank of America, Citi, and Discover offer those cards, which are meant to thwart thieves when you shop online, by phone, or by mail order. For no extra charge you sign up online for a virtual number that replaces your card number. When you shop, you receive a randomly generated 16-digit number. Depending on the card issuer, that number is valid for one or more transactions. Note that you can't use a virtual card for purchases requiring you to show your actual card.

That's probably what I was thinking of, Bucky.
