Mealey's in New Market has closed

Mealeys.jpgHow did this slip past me? Well, better late than etc. etc. Just now I was working on my Top 10 Tuesday list, All-American Restaurants; and I Googled Mealey's in New Market. It turns out it closed a couple of months ago. That immediately rang a bell. Someone, somewhere, said something to me at the time; but I never checked it out.

A lot of Baltimoreans who never ate there had at least heard of Mealey's. And if you like antiquing in Frederick County, this was the restaurant where you stopped for lunch. It had been around since the early 1900s.

If you're bored you can get a sneak peak at the artwork for tomorrow's Funtastic Thursday post. It's another black & white to color funtabulism. See it at the Owl Meat Apocrypha

Mealey's came highly recommended. Had a burger there. In the burger, a bristle from a metal grill brush. Other than that it was OK. Funky name. My motto for it: "Get The Best Grub at Mealey's".
RIP

I've always been surprised that New Market didn't have more of a restaurant scene. Now it looks like it doesn't have any restaurant scene.

What's New Market? I thought that was north of Philly.

TG, New Market is one of those names that tend to exist almost everywhere. In this particular case, they're referring to New Market, MD, out near Frederick.

Totally off topic but I have a new passion – hatred for people who dress their dogs on people clothing.

Tgurl out

T-Girl, so right.
Only the picture you link to looks like an example of a t-shirt on a guinea pig. But I get the idea.

I had dinner there a few days before Valentine's day and it was actually very good- well, the food was. the service was terrible...slooooow. But still, with in laws that live in New Market, we were sad to see it close shortly after that meal. You'd think that NM, with all of the large residential developments back around Lake Linganore, would be able support at least one nice restaurant. Most people drive into Frederick.

mealey's was good but had gone downhill. wasn't there a change in ownership over the last 2-3 yrs?

i was more upset to see hagan's tavern in braddock heights close.

In other potential Table Talk news, I had lunch at La Famiglia this afternoon and the SYT waitress told us they were going to close for lunch for July and August. Don't they know that college professors and odd clerics spend their summers in their offices writing?? A little mid-day prandial break was always good for my style.
