Having a veggie burger at Oriole Park

PX00018_9.JPGI know how much you folks have enjoyed the discussions about foie gras and such, so surely you'll be excited to learn that Oriole Park is No. 9 on PETA's  top 10 list of vegetarian-friendly major league ballparks. The Frederick Keys' Harry Grove Stadium is No. 4 on the minor league parks list.

That interests me on so many levels. But to pick an uncontroversial one, do the different rankings mean that Frederick Keys has more vegetarian offerings than Camden Yards, or that minor league parks in general are less veggie-friendly so the minor league park is higher up on its list?

EL -- here are links to the lists of major league and minor league ballparks, with explanations of a preachy sort. The fare in Frederick (veggie "steak" sandwiches and burritos) does sound more varied than that at Oriole Park.

Thanks for doing my legwork. :-) EL

If I recall correctly, the New York Times dinged Camden Yards for bad food, period.

I'll feed you, baby birds:

Harry Grove Stadium (Frederick Keys): Vegetarian Philly "steak" sandwiches (be sure to ask for no cheese), veggie burgers, veggie dogs, vegetarian wraps, build-your-own burritos, and meatless taco salads (ask for no cheese).

Granted, I haven't searched every corner of the ballpark, but I had no idea there were veggie burgers there. They sure don't go to lengths to make them available! I'd subsisted on pretzels....

Oops

Oriole Park at Camden Yards (Baltimore Orioles):
Birds fans would be disgusted to know that the meat industry drugs chickens and turkeys, making them grow so fat that their legs often become crippled under their own weight. Luckily, Orioles diehards can help prevent such cruelty by choosing mouthwatering vegetarian options such as veggie burgers, veggie dogs, vegetable wraps, vegetable panini, various salads, made-to-order sandwiches, and fresh fruit cups as Camden Yards cracks PETA's list for the first time.

A "Philly" Cheesesteak with no cheese or steak. What is it? A greasy roll with attitude?

could you let us know where these veggie burgers are located?
my girlfriend searched high and low at the park for one and couldn't find it and not one employee knew about it either.

brandon -- the Orioles website doesn't indicate where specialized food stands are located, so I'd suggest that you call the Orioles office or ARAMARK, which has the food concession.

On OPENING DAY, fans are expected to consume
9,200 Hot Dogs
4,500 Pounds of French Fries
3,700 Soft Pretzels
2,600 Orders of Chicken Tenders
1,800 Bags of Peanuts
1,400 Sausage and Pepper Sandwiches
1,300 Orders of Nachos
700 Hamburgers
650 Slices of Pizza
650 Bags of Cotton Candy
375 Bags of Cracker Jack
100 Bags of Popcorn
40 Gallons of Ice Cream
1 Veggie Burger

Veggie burger for me = more meat for you!

Perhaps the veggie offerings are only available on the club level?

I did hear that last year the Orioles and Steak-Umms teamed up and Steak-Umms burgers proclaimed their burger to be the official burger of the Orioles. That ad is gone from their website so maybe its no longer the case.

PCB Rob-

Maybe the Steak-Umms people are just embarassed.

Aramark runs the food in my workplace cafeteria. They have it out for me personally. Everytime they have something I accidently like it is removed from the menu.

Aramark - I'm on to you! And, I want the tomato tortellini soup back!

Everytime they have something I accidently like it is removed from the menu.

I often feel like that at my local Safeway.

Ah, Hal, you must shop at the Sadistic Safeway in Canton.

I swear, I only go there for the kitty litter.

I would imagine minor league parks are less likely to be vegetarian friendly than their major league counterparts on account that minor league cities are less likely to be vegetarian friendly than major league cities. It stands to reason that it is easier to find a veggie wrap in New York or LA than it is in Des Moines or Syracuse.

Perhaps Camden Yards should be compared with the minor league parks, as it is questionable if a major league team actually plays at Camden Yards.

Potato knishes at the kosher stand (except Friday night and Saturday games.)

This has happened to me on a few items I really like, and its both Publix and Winn-Dixie.

Orioles diehards can help prevent such cruelty by choosing mouthwatering vegetarian options such as veggie burgers, veggie dogs, vegetable wraps, vegetable panini, various salads, made-to-order sandwiches, and fresh fruit cups - where are these amazing options? I have never seen them there!
