Bellissimo and Top 10 Wednesday

BellissimoLambChops.jpg

Today's Table Talk column in the food section featured Bellissimo, the Mediterranean seafood restaurant that has replaced Crackpot in Bel Air. I also learned something interesting when I was in Ocean City: That the Maryland Restaurant Association's Favorite Restaurant 2009, Marlin Moon Grille, may not be around next fall. The lease won't be renewed.

As for Top 10 Wednesday, the Print Edition, the regulars dominate the comments.

What is that a picture of and where is it from? It looks horrible. But looks can be deceiving.

Charcoal-grilled lamb chops from Bellissimo. EL

What does the landlord have in mind for Marlin Moon? Perhaps some more overpriced housing to go with the hundreds of other units that are unsold? Or maybe another Sunsations - OC really needs another one of them!

It's the dining room of a motel, and I've heard he's looking for something more...compatible. Have not confirmed. EL

When will the Sun be doing a full review on Bellissimo? I was there last night and we had the crab dip, crabcake bellissimo, and an Italian pasta dish and everything was really excellent.

I've been there once and probably won't go back.. On the plus side, reasonable food, reasonable prices, fast service and friendly. On the downside,, loud beyond belief (tile, wood, etc), food is ONLY reasonable. Think Olive garden. The wine list doesn't have even one Italian red. And only one Italian white (Santa Margherita Pinot). I prefer Scotto's.

Bellissimo's is changing to Mexican. Just ask my son who was just fired and replaced by one. When this establishment opened, it was staffed by "all American" local teens. That made for a nice atmosphere. Now that business is sustaining Nick and Spiro are replacing the local teen workforce with non-English speaking Mexican Immigrants. Thanks alot Bellisimo!! I hope you go out of business very soon!!

Nothing like a side order of racism. Probably not quite hateful enough to ask that the 4:31 comment be removed, bitter parents might want to be aware that "All American" includes Mexico, technically, and that assuming that all Mexicans don't speak English or are immigrants shows a certain lack of knowledge.

Lissa, This is not about racism. I commend and praise anyone who works hard for a living and is a law abiding legal citizen. Regardless of race. My son has very good work ethics. I know for a fact He was never late, worked every hour He was asked and stayed late on many occasions. At the end of his shift he was told by Nick " Your done . Go home." and turned his back on my son with no explanation. Not to mention the total disrespect. It is Ironic that several local teens have been fired as of the last month and Mexican immigrants WHO CAN NOT SPEAK ENGLISH have been put in their place. In order to become a legal citizen of this country, you are required to learn our language, Therefore, it is a reasonable observation on my part that this newly hired workforce are most likely here illegaly.Wake up people and see what damage the influx of immigrants has done to the fabric of society. My son was fired because the owners are exploiting immigrants to work for less money. Plain and simple. If you patronize Bellisimo's, You support the exploitation of immigrants and the decline of the teenage workforce of not only Harford County, but the entire country. Don't question my knowledge. You may want to take another look at your brilliant statement " All American" includes Mexico. God help us if educated scholars such as yourself ever hold political office.

Don't question my knowledge. You may want to take another look at your brilliant statement " All American" includes Mexico.

Don't question your knowledge? When you don't seem to be aware of North and South America?

While I agree that illegal immigrants are horribly exploited by unscrupulous employers, it does not follow that your son was displaced by illegal immigrants. There are a number of visas that allow non-citizens to work.

Wake up people and see what damage the influx of immigrants has done to the fabric of society

I'm sure most of the surviving Native Americans would agree with you.

My people were immigrants, willing and not, illegal and legal (standards were lower when the first of my people came here, you just had to be white and Northern European). If you read your history, you'll see that peoples have always been on the move. Heck, the Burgundians started out over near Siberia somewhere.

It is so much easier to blame amorphous others than to do the difficult work of finding another job or the incredibly difficult job of trying to fix things.
