Balto Mag: Where to get crab cakes

KocosCrabCake.JPG

I got my July issue of Baltimore Magazine over the weekend, and the cover story is its first-ever round up of places to get great crab cakes. Suzanne and company did an excellent job, and I'm disappointed the story isn't up on the magazine's Web site yet. As soon as it is, I'll link to it here.

The only reason I'm not waiting is that some of you may want to get a copy of the print edition to keep around.

Friendly Farms is number 1. I ate half of my crab cake for breakfast this morning.

Mr. Bill's Terrace in Essex and Seaside Seafood in Glen Burnie are my favs.

I second Bill's Terrace

Friendly Farms does steamed crabs?

El the article is about crab cakes not steamed crabs. Maybe it's time for Dining at Large to do a steamed crab update.

Thanks for the correction. I didn't bring the issue with me because I thought I could link to it online. Dumb. I'll change my post. I love the way Notable M knew what I was talking about anyway. And that's an excellent idea as far as an update on places to get steamed crabs is concerned. EL

You should start a new blog called crabs where people do nothing but talk about crabs and crab cakes.

Great idea. I'm going to ask Owl Meat to contribute a guest post to it every day. EL

Well it is Baltimore. Crabs and crab cakes are all we are known for food wise.

True. Crack is not a food.

boxy: That's why I said food-wise. We are known for much more, but doesn't really apply to this blog.

Craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbssssssssssssssssssss...................

Hey, you know what they don't have on the menu in Nogales, Mexico? Cangrejo. No hay cangreo aqui. Besides, eating anthing crab here is tantamount to suicide.

You know, Elizabeth, that sounds like a challenge. Owl Meat's Crab Blog. Could I write an entry every day for the rest of the summer about crabs?

Just shoot me now. EL

Remind you of anyone? :-)

If anyone could do a crab a day, it'd be our Owlie.

The world really needs a blog dedicated to hating steamed crabs and crab cakes.

RE: Crab cake blog ... do you suppose it could afford to send an experienced taster to interesting places to try foreign crab cakes?? (I'm already missing the drive to BWI!)

Then don't bother with Breakers down here. That crab cake was all bread. It tasted good though.

The "southernmost crab cake" at the Boatyard is way better, with a Keys influence.

Oh it's going to happen.
