Eating down at the ocean

OceanInn%20001.jpg

Like I said in my earlier post, I don't want to do too much blogging about my meals here because the Dining@Large Beach Week is coming soon. But I will tell you about my breakfast.

In a minute.

But first I have a beach deep thought.

Nothing has illustrated for me how times have changed for me as much as coming down here. When several of you urged me to have a nice, relaxing time while I'm at the beach, it occurred to me that that's exactly what I would have done three years ago. (And actually did do three years ago when I was sent here for a story.) ...

But that was before they gave reporters laptops.

When I was last here I couldn't really start doing anything until places opened, so I had time to take a walk on beach and sit on the nice porch at the place I'm staying, the Inn on the Ocean. But this time I was on the computer by 5:30 a.m., and while I did walk along the boardwalk later, I felt guilty the whole time. Weird.

By the time breakfast was served at this B & B (9 a.m. to 10 a.m.) I felt like I was on my lunch hour. Of course, I never had a lunch at the Sun of fresh fruit with a sprig of mint, molasses bread, individual cheese souffles, crisp bacon, and small, soft, crisp-edged potato pancakes. So I'm not as unhappy as this might sound.

EL - glad you had such a nice breakfast! We don't usually stay at B&B's because we can't get moving that early for breakfast but it sure sounds worth getting up for!

BTW, it's downyoceanhon - if you wanna sound like a local!

Mmmmmm!

Don't miss Liquid Assets--best dining experience in OC. It's like Iron Bridge with a broader wine selection. There's a little Italian place in Fenwick, just past Nantucket when you are heading north, that has a great 1/2 price pizza night. The name escapes me but thefood is great and they have some nice Italian wine selections.

Where's the yogurt??

The Bayside Skillet is tops for breakfast (if it's still there).

If the answer is "downyoceanhon" what's the question?

"What happened when you dropped the jug of fabric softener?"

My favorite downyoceanhon breakfast ... a couple of Fractured Prune donuts, plain.

"Nice relaxing time"??? Those three words can never be uttered about Ocean City. There is nothing nice or relaxing about that place!

Marlin Moon (in francis scott key hotel on rte. 50) is far and away the best restaurant in ocean city. it was also voted restaurant association of maryland's best restaurant. if you have never been there, it is a must on a trip to the beach.

I agree with terpfan. Liquid Assets is a great place to get a good bottle of wine (or 2), and they have a nice selection of decent cheeses. The atmosphere is pretty cool, but if you get there later in the evening, it can be pretty crowded (and the parking is a pain).

Terpfan,

I think you are talking about Mancini's? Their food is excellent, and they do run some great pizza specials, especially in the off season. I second the Bayside Skillet, four of us usually share an omelet and a dessert crepe and leave stuffed!

Bayside Skillet may be tops for breakfast, but steer clear for dinner. They once had great crab cakes, but have gone downhill in that area in recent years. Once a "must-visit" of my family, now they never go in there.

i didn't realize the bayside skillet was even open for dinner. the fact that they encourage sharing dishes makes the price of the fresh squeezed OJ palatable. we share some sort of crab omelet, some sort of big, cheesy hash brown dish and always have leftovers. only kobayashi could chow down that much food. the service is pleasant beyond compare.

i haven't been there for a few years though. only necessity brings me to OC anymore.
