The nym tag
![]()
Retired in Elkridge has kindly made a name tag for future Dining@Large get-togethers. ("Nym" is short for pseudonym, which I presume is what most people would want to use.)
To make it easier to find later, I've created a category of one called, surprise, "Nym tag." Look for it to the right on the main page of the blog.

Good job, RiE!
Lets hope future get-togethers are for happy events.

I'll look for your Nym tag at the Bel Air farmer's market, MD Canon!

I object to the tagline, "The only blog you'll ever need."
Posted by: Sam Sessa | April 21, 2009 11:15 AM
sam, objection overruled!
Posted by: qzans | April 21, 2009 11:46 AM
Objection noted...let's proceed.

i can't wait to see which other eastern shorons wear their nym tag at the easton farmers' market this weekend!
Posted by: qzans | April 21, 2009 11:51 AM
at least we'll be able to read them, unlike you baltomorons....
Since qzans is from the Eastern Shore, I don't think she was insulting you. EL

Life is hard, Sam. Suck it up.

Name tags? This is starting to look like The Only Cult You'll Ever Need.
Posted by: Xenu | April 21, 2009 12:47 PM
no, of course i meant no disrespect. people are certainly touchy on the blog this week. maybe it's time to make some cuts...?
Posted by: qzans | April 21, 2009 1:03 PM
Well, I haven't seen a war of words between the Eastern and Western Shores like this since Willie Don left office.

The Terrible Twos already?

Face it, Sessa, you and I are also-blogs.
Wake up and smell the coffins.
Posted by: John McIntyre | April 21, 2009 2:48 PM
Nobody here lumped you in with Midnight Sun, Mr. McIntyre. That is a self-inflicted wound.
Posted by: Sandbox | April 21, 2009 2:57 PM
Don't give up Mr. McIntyre. With any luck you'll win the Wiki-Peta-Fark trifecta.
Posted by: Laura Lee | April 21, 2009 2:59 PM
All right, Laura Lee, I laughed so hard that I'm having one of my spells.
Posted by: John McIntyre | April 21, 2009 3:13 PM
Nym? That really sounds like something you'd wear at a swinger's club.
I came up the old fashioned way, via IRC, so I'm used to thinking of one's online moniker as a "nick."
Obviously, the next meetup should be at Nick's Fish House.

wasn't the first and only meeting all dudes?
Posted by: Anonymous | April 21, 2009 6:52 PM
Sorry, Anonymous. There was more than one meeting, but I can testify that I attended the very first, and Ms. Kitkat was also there.
Posted by: Dahlink | April 21, 2009 7:53 PM
Dude looks like a lady.

Nym tag ... Brilliant!
Posted by: MD Canon (Back after a day in Hagerstown) | April 22, 2009 12:57 AM
Whadda' ya' do if you used your real name the first time you posted because you were half asleep or half-soused and thought it was required -- and kept right on doing so? Are you ineligible for a nym tag?
Posted by: Michael A. Gray | April 22, 2009 8:41 AM
NYM...sounds like Inspector Clouseau
"Must have a Nym to register for the Rym.."
Posted by: Hue | April 22, 2009 9:01 AM
Michael,
You still get a nym tag, because no one would know who you are anyway.
Posted by: PCB Rob | April 22, 2009 10:37 AM
You guys would actually go out in public wearing one of those things? Wow!
Posted by: Hal Laurent | April 22, 2009 10:39 AM
Sure, Hal. Why not?
Posted by: Stacy | April 22, 2009 10:54 AM
Maybe we could get a secret handshake too.
Posted by: RayRay | April 22, 2009 11:43 AM
Oh, MAG, you're always eligible for everything!
Posted by: Eve | April 22, 2009 11:45 AM
Hal Laurent, Voice of Reason (And Good Taste).
Michael A. Gray: up until this very minute, I thought Michael A. Gray was a pseudonym, just a very formal one. Now you've blown your cover. (Of course, those who have been around since the "XXXX from TBRS" days know my real name, too.)
Eventually everyone probably gets outed. I know Owlie's real first name now, because one of his Facebook friends slipped. Of course he had all but told us here what it was, for those who were paying attention.
And Laura Lee, who is decended from Robert E.--she doesn't use a pseudonym, either.

Dahlink - Unless there is another Kitkat in the sandbox, I regret that I have never been to a meeting
Posted by: Kitkat | April 22, 2009 12:39 PM
"XXXX from TBRS" days, was that a long time ago?
wow how time flies.
I thought maybe Laura Lee was her first and middle names.

Stacy et. al.: Nym tag finished, printed and safely encased in an old badgeholder. (And I made a backup!) I get to the Bel Air market around 7:30, and am usually there for 20-25 minutes, depending on whom my wife bumps into.

My apologies, Kitkat. I am trying to find the notes from that first gathering, but the blog is blankety-blank slow today. hmpstd, is your memory better than mine? (Rhetorical question!)
Posted by: Dahlink | April 22, 2009 4:36 PM
Notes, name tags? Sounds like a Party meeting

Notes, name tags? Sounds like a Party meeting
Posted by: die zombie die | April 22, 2009 5:01 PM
Weird, I've never been to a Party meeting with name tags. Normally, folks weren't thrilled to give out full names.
Posted by: Lissa | April 22, 2009 5:49 PM
PCB Rob wrote "wow how time flies."
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Lissa wrote "Normally folks weren't thrilled to give out full names."
That's why its a "Nym" tag. No full names required.

RiE,
were you a Groucho Marx fan?
I liked the Marx brothers movies a lot as a kid, and they were way before my time.
Posted by: PCB Rob | April 23, 2009 12:09 AM
People, PEOPLE, I'm trying to get sleepy here, and you're making me laugh so hard I'm about to get a hernia! GOD this is fun!
Posted by: Dottie | April 23, 2009 1:14 AM
RiE, I was talking about Party meetings. Anyone who's on Facebook here knows my full name, and even before I got on Facebook, I was really easy to track down.
There is no real anonymity online.

Dahlink -- in your first report on the Kooper's gathering, you referred to Kat attending. She had queried about attending the gathering at this post. I don't know that she has posted much to D@L in recent months.
Posted by: hmpstd | April 24, 2009 4:21 PM
hmpstd, I knew you would come through for me! Kat, kitkat--no wonder I was confused! My apologies to both ladies.
