The Comment of the Week

How I usually come up with the Comment of the Week is very scientific. Starting on Sunday as I'm reading and posting comments, I save any one that seems to be a likely contender because it deserves more discussion or is funny, insightful or profound. It does need to be able to stand alone, though.
Then if another better one doesn't come along during the week, it's the one. ...
While there were some great back-and-forths this week, no one comment stood out. The exceptions were a few by my star guest posters (for instance, jl's under The Worst Mistakes Diners Make), but they get enough blog time and admiration from me. Early on I decided I better eliminate their comments from contention.
I just spent the last half hour or so enjoyably going through this week's posts and still haven't come up with a Comment of the Week, so I'm going to reprint one that also appeared under the Worst Mistakes:
Sorry to be off topic but couldn't figure out how to do a new post. We are looking for a (seafood) restaurant to visit with out of town friends in Annapolis this Monday night. Will have kids ages 9-15. We would appreciate suggestions from you and your readers.
Thanks!

At least choosing this gives me the opportunity to a) explain that only I can do a new post on this blog, and b) say you must be a new reader if you think you have to apologize for being off topic.
Most readers, when they have a new topic they want posted as a separate entry and discussed, e-mail me with it (as Hungry Hungry Hippo did, probably to his regret). I try to get it on the blog if it's at all interesting and we haven't discussed it ad nauseum before.
Oh, and if anyone has an answer to DKJ's question, please feel free to post. I usually suggest O'Learys and Carrol's Creek Cafe when I'm asked this question; I've heard that the Severn Inn is much improved since I went there, too.
But check first. These may not be open Mondays.

This falls under the category of "Where the heck do I file this in the DaL cabinet":
Did anyone catch PETA protesting Corks on Friday night because of their frois grois on the menu?
They came fully prepped with pamphlets, bullhorns (which they were told they couldn't use), video cameras (They would try to pick fights and then video tape the reactions), and legal representation. I believe there was about 12-15 of them. I also believe frois grois sales quintupled.

Maybe they meant to comment under "Worst Mistakes" because it is a huge mistake to up the best seafood/crab cake/italian discussion on the blog. (unless you want fists flying)

Carrol's Creek Cafe is open Mondays and it is great! They also have a kids menu.

The Boatyard in Annapolis isn't a bad place either. Its in the Republic of Eastport, and offers some nice views.

I love the Boatyard and it's a perfect place to take kids.
Two years ago, I had such a bad experience with the service at Severn Inn that I emailed the restaurant (never heard back) and I just can't go there anymore. Which is sort of a shame because they've got the best view in Annapolis.

PCB Rob ... That would be the "Maritime Republic of Eastport." The logo on my cute oval sticker and on one of my baseball caps says "MRE." (And they had the name locked down long before "meals, ready to eat.") I don't know what's in the water there, but even the Royal Farms Coffee tastes better than anywhere else.

MD Canon,
Yes, I forgot about the "Maritime" part of the name. Maybe its just because its on the other side of Spa Creek? The MRE even has its own flag. I liked that area because it wasn't as crowded (usually) as downtown Annapolis.

I forgot to add that I saw the shuttle launch too, a couple years ago from the air. I was on a flight from Charlotte to Tallahassee and the pilot pointed it out. Pretty neat, it was moving pretty fast too.

Do they realize that all they are doing is creating free advertising, sympathy and stimulating the foie part of my brain? Idiots.
