Next Sunday's review: Catches Restaurant, Grill & Wine Bar
Next Sunday we take a trip to Middle River and visit Catches Restaurant, Grill & Wine Bar.
Pulaski Highway isn't exactly where you'd expect to find a purely seafood restaurant, and indeed Catches is much more than that: There are just as many steaks, pastas and chicken dishes as fish. Not to mention the unlimited salad bowl a la Olive Garden and breadsticks.
Did I mention the karaoke?
To find out whether I did my rendition of "Moon River" while we were there, you'll have to look for my review in next Sunday's Arts & Entertainment section.

"Moon River"? I can't wait to see whether OMG will break out his white blouse, perky neck scarf, black capri pants and ballet flats, or a white button down shirt and striped tie, pleated khakis and a baby blue cardigan...

Cricket whites, perhaps.

Wow, YumPo really swinging for the fences on her first week out. Respeck! I prefer a more casual look.
Better yet, I can wear my Owl Man suit and you can accompany me wearing an Old Navy Town Gown Just $25 Dress It Up or Dress It Down (WTF?) on a rollicking version of Baby Got Back ... Gilbert and Sullivan style!
You are a worthy ally and adversary YumPo. En garde!

YumPo -- have you seen Owlie in his smoking jacket? It's that Noel Coward look you love.

Bucky -- wrong singer. Why not just go straight to the original?
Posted by: hmpstd | March 16, 2009 6:36 AM
Owl - Old Navy town gown - I'm dying laughing! Yes, that Gilbert and Sullivan Baby Got Back has reduced my son and I to tears on several occasions. Have you seen Alanas Morrisette's My Humps though?
Posted by: Joyce W. | March 16, 2009 7:26 AM
The Star Trek thing is amazing.

I was hoping for Bird's purple velvet.

hmpstd - I'm at work, so I can't see the You Tube...who is the original?
Posted by: Bucky | March 16, 2009 9:01 AM
Bucky -- it's the original version by Audrey Hepburn, in Breakfast at Tiffany's, of course.
Posted by: hmpstd | March 16, 2009 10:30 AM
My purple velvet loungewear is reserved for after BG draws me a bath and lights my pipe. Say what? Ceci n'est pas une pipe?
Posted by: Owl Meat Gravy 2 – Lounge Lizard | March 16, 2009 10:32 AM
hmpstd - of course. (Yet another movie I've never seen.) I'll watch it tonight.
Posted by: Bucky | March 16, 2009 12:36 PM
High praise, OMG, high praise indeed...I thank you and return your salute. That was just a friendly flick attack as I have only an épée with me today (not counting the dagger that's always strapped to my thigh).
Old Navy Town Gown for just $25?! Is one of the options black leather? WWAWD (What Would Andy Williams Do)?

Bucky, check out Micky Rooney's super-racist portrayal of buck-toothed Tojo-glasses wearing Japanese neighbor.

Bucky, check out Micky Rooney's super-racist portrayal of buck-toothed Tojo-glasses wearing Japanese neighbor.
OK, this turns into a Netflix order. I probably should have watched it long ago.

OK, just to share my confusion: I started reading posts with the last one that I remember from this morning, which was Bird's about Baby Got Back, Gilbert & Sullivan style. (And I've already bored y'all quite enough with the internet censorship here) From there, the next "musical" reference is Audrey Hepburn singing in Breakfast at Tiffany's? I couldn't put Hepburn and Sir Mix-a-Lot (I had to google for that) in the same brain wave. The thought of Hepburn (either one) rapping is just mind-boggling!
Posted by: Eve | March 16, 2009 3:24 PM
Bucky - I don't believe Audrey Hepburn sang Moon River in BaT. Her voice was dubbed. Someone called Marny Nixon sang it. I recall that AH could not sing. She did not win an Oscar for My Fair Lady because she did not sing.

Mickey Rooney was in Breakfast in Tiffany's? I Hepburn in the big black hat and George Peppard as his very young self.
Posted by: Eve | March 16, 2009 3:28 PM
The word remember fits well between "I" and "Hepburn".

Mickey Looney in Bleakfass at Tiffany's, ... ah sooooo.....

Yes, First Timer, this is a cult or something.

OK, Kitkat's comment sort of straighten me out...(Hi, Kitkat, good to hear from you again.
When hmpstd was talking about Audrey Hepburn singing Moon River, I was thinking Katherine Hepburn.
Now that Kitkat says, "My Fair Lady" I'm back on track.
I put it in my Netflix queue. When we watch it and she starts singing, I'll point out to Mrs. Bucky that it isn't really her singing. That will amaze her. (That I know something--anything--about Audrey Hepburn, I mean, not that Audrey is lip-synching.)
Posted by: Bucky | March 16, 2009 5:10 PM
Sorry, Kitkat, but that was Audrey Hepburn's real voice in BaT -- which, no doubt, explains why they brought Marni Nixon in to dub her in My Fair Lady. To be honest, I think that Audrey's limited vocal skills (and she freely admitted that she was no great singer) helped to underscore the poignancy of the song in the context of the movie.
Bucky -- please note the above, and you'll truly amaze Mrs. Bucky with your Audrey knowledge.

hmpstd - I got home and watched it. God, I forgot how pretty she was. Thanks.
Owlie - the G&S Baby Got Back cracked me up, too.

Hey, Kitkat--where have you been, girl?
Have you been hanging out at the pet blog (now feline-friendly)? Welcome back to the original box.

Never left. Just read. Need my daily fix of D@L blogging. A good chuckle or out-and-out belly laugh is good for the soul. My co-workers think I'm nuts cuz they don't know my secret addiction.

Well, give us a shout-out or a meow now and then, okay, Kitkat? Glad to know you haven't wandered off.
