Coming soon: The Hibachi Sushi-n-Supreme Buffet

buffet_cropped.jpg

Ever alert reader and champion commenter Hal Laurent, Voice of Reason, has sent me this photo of a sign posted on the building where the Old Country Buffet used to be, next door to the Motor Vehicle Administration in Glen Burnie.

Whoa.

This could redefine the term "eclectic cuisine."

The former Old Country Buffet on Joppa Rd. at Satyr Hill shopping center is some kind of hibachi place now too.

Frightening.

Personally I object to any buffet on Satyr Hill. Nay I say.

The Old Country Buffet in Abingdon (near BJ's) simply closed. Thank God for small favors.

How could they leave out the fine cuisine of Ghana?

Gack.

And now for something completely different...

I was at the Columbia Mall yesterday and where Hagen Daz used to be is a red and white sign: Five Guys Coming Soon.

Would anybody like to guess the ethnicity of the owners?

I would put money on Korean.

All those different foods in one stomach? Sounds like a duodenal blunderbuss.

Lissa, this is in Glen Burnie.

Hal, remember, I'm not a local. I've driven through Glen Burnie once (I broke out in hives). You'll have to explain it to me.

Point to Hal Laurent, VoR.

To determine the ethnicity of this place, we need to get ahold of the menu and see what sorts of endearing spelling mistakes it contains. As TerrierMom once pointed out, misspellings are the true mark of an ethnic restaurant.

Lissa, I'll just say that Glen Burnie isn't the most culinarily advanced area around.

I'm obviously not up on which cuisines are advanced. I thought Ghanaian cooking was common wherever there were cab drivers?

There is on on Joppa Rd with the same name. We have been there a bunch of times since it has opened. All the food is fresh and has great flavor. The sushi is good. Best buffet we have found so far!

But Hal, there is a Checkers AND a Long John Silvers in Glen Burnie! Actually, I think LJS is in Brooklyn, but close enough.

I bow to Loup-Garou Laura Lee and Tenacious TerrierMom on this and compiling further evidence of their connection.

Point to Trixie!

There's a Hibachi Sushi (etc.) in place of the Old Country Buffet at Satyr Hill & Joppa in Parkville. I can't see all of those cuisines being done well, so I'll take a pass.

I can't see all of those cuisines being done well, so I'll take a pass.

Then you'll miss the guacaroni

I, for one, will not be passing this place up. I'm a bit of a sucker for a buffet... at least once.

What's not to like about a buffet? Pawed over food kept at 100 degrees f. It's the epitome of gustatory delight!
Yummy!

Are they open yet? My hungry friends and I want to go here for lunch today!!!!

yes, they are the best around. they offer crab cake, fresh blue, steam shrimp, and much more

I just ate at the place just the other day. I thought the place was great, I am an all American and loved their crab cakes, and all the other seafood they have. Alll the seafood and other stuff you can eat for just 1 price. but One catch, the crab balls and some of the seafood are not available until dinner time and not lunch.

Well, there we have it, an endorsement for an "All American". I'm sold.

Just ate there this week. It was excellent!! I can't wait to go back. Everything was sooo fresh. There are all kinds of foods - the "American" dishes are not the usual boring fares. There were 6 soups, a full bar of fresh fruit, to include pineapple, kiwi, watermelon. There were crab legs - at lunch - fried shrimp, fried whole fish, The sushi is soo fresh - being made right then; you can choose Hibachi, too. Everything was excellent - didn't even get around to dessert - ice cream, cheese cakes, pies. Well worth the money.

I've went there twice. Personally, Glen Burnie isn't the best for dining, but this place is great. I don't think i tried anything i didn't like

The Food is soooooooo goood!!!!

It appears that everyone who loves this place has a writing style that is soooooooo similar.

RoCK, I think we've been the victim of an attack of the serial shiller(s), all plugging the same place. I think the same thing was pulled on us with regard to the new restaurant at the American Visionary Arts Museum -- more raves, mostly about unspecified food selections, from persons who all appear to be channeling Rachael Ray.

hmpstd, I'm soooooooooo nauseated by that analogy. Rachael Ray and her cutesy sayings work like syrup of ipecac on me!

I went Friday night, the food was excellent. I was overwelmed by the different variety of foods available. There was only room for Sushi & Hibachi, next time I plan on trying some of the American cuisine. I would definitely recommend this place to all my friends.

It's like some sort of bad joke. EL

Elizabeth, I'm sure there is a blog out there devoted to taunting restaurant critic blogs, and they've been organizing to keep this post alive with bad Rachael Ray impersonations.

You know, a kind of 4chan for foodies place.
